I used to live right near the and I’d shop there nearly 3 times a week! I was so spoiled. Now making a trip there feels like a major haul, faced with either crazy traffic or a major train shlep to make it happen. But every time I go it is so worth it and I come out of the trip with a very self satisfied feeling that I got some great produce. Last nights market dinner was tomato toasts, corn, and broccoli with garlic and it was the quintessential summer meal!

A good brine is liquid gold. Getting this one ready for 10 lbs of short ribs I’m smoking this week! I toasted black peppercorns, coriander and fennel and combined with bay leaves, lemon, onion brûlée, kosher salt and sugar. Brining my ribs for 24 hours, rubbing them for 12 hours, smoking them until they’re perfect! Will keep you posted on the process. Anyone else swear by their brines?!

It’s boiling hot outside and I’m still boiling pasta water in my un-air conditioned loft in Red Hook because let’s face it, I’m addicted to noodles. Here’s a few of my fav homemade pasta projects, including linguine vongole, spinach ravioli filled with goat cheese and egg, and pork raviolis like I used to make . Tonight I’m doing orecchiette with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. Anyone else have some favorite summer pasta recipes?!

The first time I had a stuffed squash blossom was in Rome with my parents at this incredibly fancy restaurant on top of a hotel, where I arrived more under dressed than I’ve ever been in any situation in my life. I remember trying to hide my clothes under the tablecloth and napkins, and when I had to get up to go to the bathroom I was just mortified to be wearing ripped jeans and sneakers. Then these stuffed blossoms came to the table and I forgot about everything because they were so incredible. To this day I’ve never had one as good. But every summer, I buy these guys, stuff them with ricotta, mozzarella and basil, dredge in a little flour and cornstarch and fry until crispy. They may not be exactly how I remember but they are still pretty fantastic.

Egg salad is such an emotional dish for me. My mother made it every summer on Fire Island and it carries so many sensory memories. I love making it now for my girls. Watching (one of them) decide she likes it has been such a joy for me. It’s funny how one little recipe can hold so many feelings.

So glad it’s the first official summer weekend for us! Making some skillet cornbread at the beach, enjoying some time with my kids and taking deep breaths and trying to relax by the ocean. Being by the water is known to help with stress, and as a highly anxious person I definitely feel the relief when I sit at the beach. Trying to get my fill of the outdoors and good food while we’re here!

It’s officially summer and it’s officially time for tomatoes all day every day! One summer when we lived in the East Village, and I ate tomatoes on toast with mayo for nearly every meal we had at home. Bringing back that energy this year with roasted tomatoes, tomato confit, gazpacho, you name it! What’s everyone’s fav tomato variety?! The Cherokee purples get me every time 😍

What’s everyone cookin up for Father’s Day this weekend?? We are going full speed on the grilled meats for , in true Meter style. Short ribs, smoked brisket, sausage with chimichurri and of course all the grilled veg. This gochujang brisket with soy savoy cabbage slaw and pickled onions is just one of our fav meaty sandos we’ll be snacking on. What are you and your fams doing?!

Chimichurri deviled eggs with fried shallots are one of my go-to small bites. Jon put together this wallpaper homage and it is making my day. I first made these for Thanksgiving apps one year and Jon’s family loved them so much I had to make them for every family gathering for years. The fried shallots are what put these puppies over the edge and I like to really load em up. They’re good for cocktail parties, brunch parties, they’re an any time of day snack! Rosé all day! These champagne glasses were a gift from my mom. We used to have them at holidays growing up and I honestly hated them because they are so fragile and one would inevitably break at every party, at which point my mother would cringe and groan and the offending glass breaker (usually my aunt) would be shamed by all. JK but not really. Anyways now I have a few of them myself and use them for really special toasts! What’s everyone celebrating this month?!
