We love keeping our door open as the weather warms up! Hoping these new planters keep the mosquitoes at bay!

Planted them with citronella, mint, rosemary, lemongrass and then French and English lavender. We will see how they do…but they already smell and look great!

Acacia Stereophylla…while it is a native to Australia, it can be found gracing the California desert in Palm Springs!

“If you would be happy for a lifetime…grow chrysanthemums”, states an old Chinese proverb!

Definitely the Queen of fall flowers, mums were available only as yellow flowers in ancient China, until Chinese botanists developed different cultivars a thousand years ago.

Chrysanthemums made their way into Japan, but were only allowed to be grown by nobility.

They made their way to Europe in the 1700’s and today we enjoy so many gorgeous colors and varieties!!

One of the strangest plants in my garden is my Ceropegia grandiflora…or Starfish Cactus…but it isn’t actually a cactus!

This certainly fits the bill of a drought tolerant plants we were looking for our front yard. But…it came with some bonus features we were not aware of…like the large, hairy flowers!

Unknown to me was that it also boasts another name: Carrion Plant. Apparently aptly named for the rather unattractive dead-meat odor and the fact that it does attract…flies! Not lovely bees or butterflies…simply flies!

Planted in our front yard…perhaps it will dissuade unwelcome guests with the odor and flies…as long as our neighbors are ok with it!

This delicate beauty is Cyrtanthera liboniana. It is actually a rare and endangered plant in its native Ecuador that hummingbirds love!
This one…we found in the Moody Rainforest in Galveston, Texas of all places!
