This rang so true with me. Hope you give yourself the grace this morning. You are enough and are doing more than any person can really do. And you are doing a great job. 👏🏽
“We’ve normalized a pace of life that is unsustainable.”
-Skylar Liberty Rose
When I heard these words spoken last week, my heart, mind and body cried out “This!”
This is what so many of us have been feeling lately.
I think it’s more than the “back to school” craziness.
I think it’s more than “harvest season on the farm” intensity.
I think it’s more than sports practices, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
It’s this deep realization that we cannot keep living like this.
It’s driving us into the ground.
When I looked up the definition of “Sustainable”, I found this:
“Avoidance of the depletion of a resource to maintain balance”.
Depletion is a word that keeps coming up in my conversations with my friends.
We are exhausted, overwhelmed and strung out.
Utterly depleted.
Physically, emotionally, mentally, socially, spiritually.
I don’t know the solution.
I don’t know how to “fix” this.
But I do know that awareness is always the first step to making changes.
I know there are seasons of life, an ebb and flow.
I know there are ways to say no, so we can say yes to what matters.
I know we were not created to live lives of crushing pressure and constant depletion.
Here’s to developing awareness… and seeking sustainable solutions.
Are you feeling this too?
P.S. When I'm feeling particularly overwhelmed, I walk the fields and ponder these words that give my weary heart comfort: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
