sunday dreamscape ✨

what is a studio session?
this is my creative space. a time to be curious. a time for free play for no one but me. it can feel like practice around a certain concept or topic. it can feel a bit like a mad scientist in her lab and always leaves me relaxed and revived.

an exercise in restraint.
when creating this piece i focused deeply on individual elements to avoid overcrowding. there was a lot of thought around which leaves to keep. which stem length or shape to use. so many pieces pack it in. sometimes, in fear, my brain runs towards “quantity” for event work when in reality it should be about “impact”.

the flowers
snowberry, garden rose, clematis, celosia, kangaroo paw and whole pecans

After contemplating ways we can be most helpful to our community this is one we felt was urgent to share because we recognize October is one of the busiest months for the WNC event industry. Many are searching for ways to very quickly problem solve for their clients. Please feel free to tag or share this with anyone you know who may be looking for solutions or connect us with them however is easiest for everyone.

To our local clients and Ohio family wishing to help provide monetary donations and supplies…we will be releasing additional details/efforts in the coming days.

So much love to you guys. As always, if you or anyone you know is in need of anything, please know you have family with Gather. Truly, don’t hesitate to ask.

sweet, sweet greens.

bay leaf, spirea, huckleberry and locally grown japanese anemone.

greenery is a foliage, not a filler. i have this loose belief it shouldn’t be used to take up space and save cost but instead, designed with intention. we prefer to use in a way that makes sense and serves a purpose.

when creating pieces that are focused on those sweet greens, use a variety of colors and shapes that echo each other to create depth and dimension.

darker colors toward the base add a feeling of fullness without bulk. lighter foliage at the tallest points create height without the piece feeling overwhelming. bridge the two with a mid-tone and use your first few stems to establish a shape you love.

a fun little story.

this morning i messaged alice and said - why don’t you make two $65 grab and go bouquets in addition to the two bouquets we have available? i had this funny little feeling we would need them today.

in the same breath i said - actually, why don’t you make one and i’ll make one too? a jess bouquet and an alice bouquet.

when i got into the studio she was finishing hers up. the day got away from us. someone came in and bought two of the bouquets and a vase for their anniversary. i did a little arranging and delivered the piece.

another person came in and bought the remaining bouquet and we tossed in a few flowers for their kiddos.

around this time i looked at alice and said, aww, i never made my bouquet today. just as i was finishing up a conference call someone rang the studio and said - do you have enough flowers for a “little bouquet” by chance? i told alice, i can make this one but i’ll wait until she gets here so she can pick what she loves.

in walked the sweetest woman who just so happened to be getting married later today. she said - i love everything here, whatever you want to make would be amazing.

after building her bouquet, we did the math and wouldn’t you know it came out to be exactly $65.80. once she left i looked at alice and said - we are the movers, the shakers, the magic makers.

trust your gut and have a little fun. everything is arriving for you exactly as it’s meant to 💫

pretty in a plethora o’ pink for the cutest little bubblegum thief there ever was.

thank you for letting us celebrate you and support you today . my heart is overjoyed. the scent of sugar is lingering in the studio a bit and all it does is remind me of the sweetness you guys bring those you love on. thank you for doing what you do. i hope tonight is a heartfelt reminder of the value of the hard work.

claire’s army is an organization dedicated to the support and care for families as their children undergo treatment for pediatric cancer. it’s arms reach into so many areas of service that aren’t always considered. it’s a different kind of love. please visit their profile and website to learn more and perhaps offer your love in some capacity. volunteer work is a free way to do so ;)

the backstory.
each year, quietly, Gather has chosen a charity to support through flowers. we work diligently with the organization to provide what will help their event most at the lowest rate we can arrange. the labor is donated. sometimes it’s just me. sometimes it’s a team. this year it was Claire’s Army. i held it together until i added the bubblegum. once i could smell the sugar i could hear emily telling me about how claire would steal it out of the nurses’s pockets.

loving on the team organizing today’s event and all who are involved/impacted a little extra today 🫧💗

swipe for my current view. i am here working and looked up from my laptop, in the quiet studio, and it hit me all at once. i’m emotional over the fact that this space exists for not just me, but all of us. and recognizing just how much has been exchanged in this studio in barely over a year. the joy. the tears. the hugs and support. it’s wild, people we don’t know have come through the doors and found refuge here in so many ways. sometimes i wonder if people on social think i dramatize or exaggerate these magical experiences because …what tiny flower shop can really impact people that way? yeah. ok…but it really does happen. all the time. weekly. sometimes daily and once every couple weeks we have a day where it happens all day long. two weeks ago we had a day where it felt back to back to back and alice and i had to pull it together at the end of the day because we were both misty-eyed over all we had witnessed from strangers finding connection inside our humble home.

NEW to the shop. by the hour candles. feed the tube of wax through the clasp, light and enjoy. these pretty ladies s***f out all on their own when the wicks burn down to the clasp. cool, right?

our first official retail addition to the studio and a personal favorite. i like to read by candlelight in bed to help adjust my circadian rhythm and if i occasionally fall asleep i’m glad it’s to a candle that does too ;)

want first dibs? swing by the shop or give us a call at the studio to hold one for you.

broken vessels still hold water and hydrated flowers don’t burn quickly.

simply because we have experienced what feels like moments of brokenness does not mean we cannot hold water or offer sustenance to what we contain. we may, when we exist in ourselves exactly as we wish. the moment of “supposed to” is what drains us.

when we walk through fire with a fully hydrated soul, watered by love, we sizzle. we steam. we allow what is dry to crumble to the pressure only for the rest to remain in its glory. the worn, crisp edges enhancing the beauty and showcasing further the juxtaposition of our softness.

story captured by
to express the thoughts above i wanted to create a piece in this broken vase; showcasing the value of perspective and self-care. on its side this “broken” vase holds water. upright, as it is “supposed to be” the water simple drains. and no matter how hard we tried, the flowers, fully hydrated, simply wouldn’t burn.

the flowers: moab roses, white majolika spray roses and nine bark

Our Story

Opening in the Spring of 2019, Gather is an event-focused flower studio dedicated to bringing sustainable and bespoke floral services to our clients. We pride ourselves in collaboration and our willingness to think outside the box.

We consistently work to evolve our practices with sustainability and educational growth in mind. Our ultimate goal is to use as many seasonal and local blooms as possible.

At Gather, we believe: - A life shared with others is a life well spent - In living a life of service, gratitude and genuine kindness - A single picked flower can offer the same warmth as a well-crafted bouquet - And that all of the above is often found in the moments where people Gather together.
