The artillery was at Crown Point (111, yes, one hundred eleven! cannon) and at Ticonderoga (78 cannon), but Maj. Philip Skene's British stronghold of Skenesborough [now Whitehall NY] was, by 9 May 1775, a local power center to be dealt with by the patriots in the New Hampshire Grants.

A major Beach ran counter-clockwise from Castleton to Hand's Cove on 9 May 1775. Was it son Samuel (ca. age 23) or his father Gershom? Historians have various opinions, generation after generation.

Just a reminder, Vermont author and historian, Gary Shattuck will be presenting the story of Phillip Skene. Skene the founder of Skenesborough, now Whitehall, NY. Gary will be using primary sources not found in his book The Rebel and the Tory, the connection between Ethan Allen and Phillip Skene. The talk will be March 28th, Sandy Hill Arts Center, Hudson Falls, NY at 6:30pm.
