To all the Mothers we know, thank you!!

Dear Beloved Students and Friends,

On March 8, 2008 we extended our hand and asked, “May we have this dance?” and commenced one of the most enjoyable journeys of our lives – Metropolitan Ballroom. Now with tremendous sadness we have decided to close the studio effective June 30. The adverse impact of the Covid-19 virus to our communities in general and specifically to the dance community has evolved into a much more dangerous environment and a longer return to normal than expected. This condition now makes it impossible for us to continue as a vibrant and healthy business. For 12 glorious years we’ve been the happy place for many dancers, and it breaks our hearts to admit that the virus is stronger than we are.

In the past 4 months of often frightening and mostly frustrating situation we have tracked health conditions and trends in the Charlotte area looking for some real improvement. We have looked at multiple options for grant money, fund-raising, an out-right sale, and have tried to work out several options with our landlord for more flexible terms, however no viable path has emerged as long as there is no prevention or cure.

Throughout this ordeal the ballroom dance community’s comfort level with social contact has been through multiple changes and many perspectives. Despite this and the many innovations such as virtual classes, limited physical contact during private lessons, fewer simultaneous activities of any sort on-premises, and deeply restricted mass gatherings just do not produce the revenues necessary to maintain a large venue operation like ours with the overhead we incur.

As a result, on June 30 we will close our doors and say “Adieu, but please keep dancing…” and sadly for us that will need to be at another location other than ours. We’ll probably see you there too, but this time only as participants or spectators.

In the meantime, we wish you all the best and look forward to that day when it’s safer and more comfortable to again ask that lovely question, “May I have this dance?”
