The Windy City All Star Band was founded May 2006 by Frederick Felder, a graduate of Corliss High School class of 2003. After the CPS all star band had their run from 1999-2002, there has been talks of keeping it going, and Frederick made it happen. Before WCAB was born, we started with about 50 members at the Jackson Park field house. Nash All Star Band” under the founding leadership of Travele J
udon. Nash was a former member of the University of Arkansas Pine-Bluff marching band and played mellophone. She was also a faithful member of Sheldon Heights Church of Christ on 11325 S. Halsted until her failing health. After a few months, Fred was appointed president and he brought new ideas, startin with a name change. The name decided upon was the “Windy City All Star Band” with slogan “Blowin’ in from the mid west” and motto "One generation crankin' on a nation." Our colors are navy blue, red and white. We chose our name based on Chicago being known as the “windy city” and we wanted to showcase our all stars old and new. WCAB was in operation for 5 years years, May 2006 to December 2009 and August 2013 to August 2015. In those years, we have performed at Soldier Field and Gately Stadium for Hubbard High School, Simeon High School and Corliss High School. We also have participated in the Proviso East battle of the bands and Jackie Robinson Parade, opened up for gospel artist Mary Mary and we were the pep band for Chicago State University for two consecutive seasons. The Windy City All Star Band has also had members recruited to some of our most prestigious HBCU’s. Some of them are Central State University, Jackson State University, South Carolina State University and University of Arkansas Pine-Bluff. We look forward to keeping this tradition and legacy going for many more years to come. President/Director-Frederick Felder, Vice-President-Jeremy Day Secretary-Chasity Jones
