1. Let me repeat…KNOW YOUR BUDGET. Professionals understand that sometimes clients have never used a service provider for events and may not know what everything costs, but you do know what you want to spend. Having a starting budget in mind helps the both of you. 2. There’s a difference between a Planner and a Designer. Here’s the short of it, a Planner focuses on logistics and most times vendor curation (outside of design). A Designer handles décor and brings your design vision to reality. 3. The reality shows are not reality. You cannot get lots, lavish, plus luxury for pennies. Sometimes the events you see on tv have been sponsored (partially or fully).4. You’re not just paying for what you see (product/flowers/etc.), there’s other expenses including labor and overhead.5. The price is the price.6. If it’s not in the contract, it’s not an obligation. Please read your contracts.7. A mutual respect is a must. Both parties, the client and the professional should be respectful to all, and this starts with fulfilling your obligations.8. Event/Floral Designers do not control the wholesale price of flowers. 9. Seasonality may affect pricing.10. Pinterest is a guide for your vision, but most Event Professionals also require to having some creative control.11. Designers (or any Event Professional), are not obligated to give you resources if you are not their client. Why would they give you something for free that their clients pay for?12. Most Event Professionals require some type of retainer payment/financial commitment before you are considered a Client.13. Some Event Professionals are in the game for only the money, but most are in the game because of passion and purpose…….and the money 😊14. Office hours are in place for a reason.15.
