I love downtown Chicago this time of year! It’s all decked out for the holidays and people are out shopping and holiday music is being played. So of course we took full advantage of the beauty of State Street when we were out for Jess and Antonio’s wedding last week.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! I love downtown when it’s all decked out for the holidays. We got a little hint of it for Whitney and Mike’s wedding before Thanksgiving.
I am still very busy in December and my current turnaround for editing is 3 months. This is normal for me this time of year. I know everyone wants their photos. I am only on person who is just doing their best. And is going to spend most of the day tomorrow at the hospital getting my infusion for my Crohn’s. I can only do so much. I’m supposed to be on a self imposed social media break, but given the election results I’m breaking my ban to say this. I always have and always will support same s*x marriage. I believe you should be able to love whoever you love and marry that person should you want to do so. I will continue to support and love our couples in the LGBTQIA community.

If you had asked me Sunday I would have said I was ready to stop taking any more bookings for this year. But today I’m mad as hell and have already gotten 3 inquires of couples from other states wanting to come get married here. Chicago is a blue dot in a sea of red and we will welcome everyone who is seeking to get married here in Illinois.

And if you think I’m overreacting please unfollow me. No one thought Roe v Wade would get overturned either and here we are. My friends are scared. My couples are scared. I love you all and I support your choices.

Did I photograph one of the most gorgeous elopements ever this week? Yes. Were my calves on fire from walking so much in the sand with all my gear? Also yes. Would I do it again? 100%. Kathy and Austin said I do at Gillson Beach in Wilmette surrounded by gorgeous fall color. We practically had the place to ourselves thanks to the construction and cooler temps which was perfect. 15/10! Dress, earrings, purse :

Friday’s wedding was a dream. Everything was perfection. The couple was so in love and just a joy to be with. The weather was unreal. Every location we went out on a show of why Chicago is the best. Hannah and I connected via our love of dogs and so there was no doubt that the dogs would be included in the engagement session. So Mochi and Rhys took their parents for a stroll around Wicker park and then grabbed some beers at a brewery where they took a nap. Being cute is hard work.

Let’s talk about this badass woman ran the on Sunday and then put on a gown and heels on Monday and rocked this anniversary session at North Ave! I don’t even know how she was still standing let alone wearing heels. She and her husband Clinton elopement on this weekend last year when they were here for the marathon so I was thrilled when she reached out to do a session again. More anniversary sessions please!

I had so much fun at Dan and Rob’s wedding Saturday. I laughed. I cried. And I was working the whole time I can only imagine how guests must have felt! These two are so amazing and their friends and family made me feel like I’d know them forever. It was hands down the best ceremony I’ve ever witnessed (and that’s saying a lot from someone with 16 years in the wedding industry) and legit if there is a video of it I’d watch it weekly. Yesterday I felt like I took a mini vacation when I went to Michigan for Grace and John’s engagement session. I joined them in their lakeside town just over the border as they showed me some of their favorite spots and ended with this gorgeous sunset on the beach. It made this city girl think that she needs a vacation home on the lake haha. A girl can dream….

We had Crazy winds and super high waves on the lake thanks to the aftermath of the hurricane (yes all the way in Chicago). But that didn’t stop and Joe from heading to North Ave after their city hall wedding. I’ve been photographing weddings for 16 years. Hundreds and hundreds of weddings. And yet Saturday was the first time I’ve had my bride and groom go “surfing” on the dance floor! Apparently it’s a family tradition. I was 99% sure someone was going to end up in the hospital but it seems that everyone survived. Cross that off my bucket list! This is why I just can’t totally let go of bigger weddings. I love a good dance floor! Venue: DJ:

The only kind of blurry photo I like. I’m so confused by the blurry just to be blurry wedding photo trend. Blur to show motion or movement sure, but my college photographer professor would have given me an ear full of just showed a portfolio of all blurry photos 🤷‍♀️ like why would a photo of the cake be blurry?! Maybe I’m old and I don’t get it. Am I old?! Crap I’m probably old. Anyway here is my favorite “blurry” photo of the week from Mitch and Bonnie’s elopement. I love it when a yellow cab comes by at just the right time.

Marcey and Mick told me they just wanted to have fun, get married and maybe grab a drink or 2 for their elopement day. And we did just that.
