Alapalooza was conceived last year when we saw all the weeds growing in the volleyball pit at the Oakland County Alano Club. The pit had been abandoned for some years and the property at the Alano club is beautiful and spacious! Our first thought was to get some sand for the pit and have some good sober volleyball fun. We would get some donations and fill the pit and that was that. As we looked at
the size of the property we thought what a great place to have a party! Then we thought, wow, we should pitch tents have music and volleyball…then let’s have a huge slip and slide!….and a bounce house!...and Horseshoes!...and a cookout!...and Sumo wrestling!...and fireworks!! Let’s do it on the weekend of July the 4th! Seeing how it was already June the 4th some thought it was a pipe dream. So a handful of dreamers got to work! With the help and support of all the meetings at the Alano Club (The AA Center Groups) and Judy from the club and Mike H from AA we got busy with donations and raffles we filled the volleyball pit, put in horse shoe pits, got a bounce house, a slip and slide, a Loud PA system, a live band, A tent with tables and chairs, Lights for the Volleyball pit, tents and an arsenal of fireworks! We had campers, tents, volleyball, fireworks, and a meeting at midnight! Stan Brought his early 60’s ameba shaped camper and set out pink flamingos, flowers, a garden gnome and a welcome matt! This year the 4th falls on a Friday and the celebration will begin early starting with the Alcathon. We will begin pitching tents and placing campers Friday evening. We will have some live music and volleyball Friday evening with the possibility of some fireworks budget permitting. Saturday the 5th will be the main day with live music, food and events all day into the night with a campfire meeting at midnight. Sunday morning there will be a pancake breakfast.
