One of the highlights of our weekend was the inaugural “Stars So Bright” event, presented by Homeless No More, an organization that represents vulnerable families by providing support services and making affordable housing attainable.

The event was held at the historical The Mansion on Blanding, owned by former Mayor of Columbia Steve Benjamin. The purpose was to highlight “stars”, or different community leaders that support their efforts, as well as uplift the community in general.

The 9 stars stars included:
Emmy-award winning anchor for WIS TV, Judi Gatson
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott
Katrina Shealy SC Senate, founder of Katrina’s Kids
Fourth Circuit US Court of Appeals Judge DeAndrea Benjamin
Scott Garvin, President, Garvin Design Group
IS Leevy Johnson, Owner, Leevy's Funeral Home
Tanya Rodriguez-Hodges, Latino Communications CDC
Vince Ford, Senior VP of Community Affairs
Posthumously, Barbara Willm, VP of Development and Human Relations, Lexington Medical Center

Each star nominated a rising star in the community. The list included:

It was especially inspiring to hear from their "rock star", a young lady who was homeless with her daughter a year ago but, through the help of this organization, she was able to secure housing and is now serving as a Richland County Deputy.

Entertainment was provided by the Terence Young Experience, led by the incomparable, world-renowned guitarist Terence Young.

Anybody else feeling cocky about their weekend?!?

I can’t describe our excitement when we got to meet USC Gamecocks mascot “Cocky” at a 1920’s Masquerade Gala and Auction this past Saturday!

Speaking of Gamecocks, we would like to congratulate the Lady Gamecocks basketball team and legendary coach Dawn Staley on an AMAZING season! As Coach Staley said in a recent interview, “This team exemplifies how you need to approach basketball, on the court and off the court.” Thank you also for selflessly donating some of your signed memorabilia to this fundraiser/auction, which raised money for research and families who are fighting blood cancer. (More information on the gala coming soon!)

Dillon High School held their 2023 Prom last night. For the first time in school history, there was a tie for Prom Queen. These ladies and their King displayed true royal behavior. They straightened each others’ crowns, gave heartfelt congrats, and gladly shared the spotlight. 👑🤴🏾👸🏾👸🏾
