I’ve been in this industry for over 15 years, and lately something’s been sitting on my heart. As designers, we’ve each been blessed with a unique gift the ability to create beauty with our hands and bring dreams to life. And I say this with love and respect for every journey because I know we all walk different paths.

But I’ve noticed more premade silk flower balls especially the mass-produced styrofoam ones from overseas being used in high-end event designs. I’ve even seen silk arrangements meant to mimic cascading flowers, draping down to the floor, but lacking the life, movement, and elegance that fresh florals bring. And it makes me pause.

This isn’t to tear anyone down I love silk flowers. They have their place when used with care and intention. And I fully understand that health concerns, allergies, or access to fresh blooms can sometimes guide those decisions. But there’s a difference between designing and simply placing premade pieces. This is about purpose. About storytelling.

Because the entire event from the first step down the aisle to the last dance is a story. A love story. A dream brought to life. Every detail should speak to that.

When a bride and groom walk into their reception, I don’t want them to see shortcut design. I want them to feel something. I want them to walk into a space that smells of fresh blooms, sit at their sweetheart table surrounded by lush florals, and be wrapped in beauty that was crafted, not copied.

The tablescape should whisper luxury fine dinnerware, polished flatware, glowing candlelight, and flowers that cascade naturally, gracefully, intentionally to the floor. Not stiff silk bunches glued to foam, but a fluid work of art that tells their story.

That’s what luxury is. That’s what clients will invest in. Not just things but a moment. A memory. An experience.

My rule? Fresh flowers belong where guests can touch, smell, and connect with them. Silk, when used, should soar above in the ceiling, in large-scale installations where texture and drama matter most.

Let’s honor the gift God gave us. Let’s not settle. Let’s create from the heart and deliver experiences that live far beyond one night.
