"Old Glory" was waving in the wind under sunny skies at Firestone Park yesterday, raised by members of Girl Scout Troop 80777, to start off the concert performance of the Firestone Symphony Orchestra. A large crowd stood for the national anthem as the flag was raised and then enjoyed a magnificent concert of majestic Americana and Broadway music performed by 48 talented professional musicians under the direction of virtuoso conductor, Charles Kobb. Visitors also viewed the first showing of "An American Legacy," by Menning Films, telling the story of the restoration of Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park. The free Fall concerts, to honor the musical legacy of Idabelle Firestone, will continue every Sunday at 3 pm from now through October 15, rain or shine. "Suburban Brass," a fabulous Brass Quintet, will perform on September 17 at 3 pm. Concerts are held at the "Idabelle Firestone Gathering Place and Garden, the beautiful outdoor hilltop amphitheater built in her honor. Concerts are free, donations are accepted. Shuttle and seating provided. Updated concert information will appear on this page through the end of the concert series, so stay tuned!
