Grandpa Frank… I can’t believe we won’t get to share any more birthdays together. You with your pineapple upside down cake and me with my chocolate or ice cream cake….

It’s impossible to believe you are gone just like that. Two grandpas in a month. How is this real life? How can Mom and Susan have lost their Dad and Stepdad so close? I’m mostly speechless with only one word coming to mind over and over… “why?”

Why did you have to be taken this way? Why now of all times? I wish we could’ve said a proper goodbye 🥺🤍

The moment just before it happens ✨ That's my favorite.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This job is surrounded by anticipation. Anticipating the completion of each event is a unique kind of stress – one that I crave more of oddly enough. I guess that means I love this job.

I love that final moment. The threshold between sending everyone down the aisle, or opening the doors to a fully set reception space. So long as I'm not distracted by something else, I'll often do a little dance or give someone nearby a *quiet* high five in celebration after a year's worth of anticipation coming to fruition.

Well today marks a different kind of celebration that I've been anticipating, the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse 🌄 I bought a telescope when I was about 10 yrs old and observed space with my Dad growing up. Celestial events – particularly eclipses – are something special to me.

Josh and I went to a mountaintop bed and breakfast for the last total eclipse in 2017 and it was pure magic. We set up our picnic on the peak, watched the partial eclipse begin, and before we knew it the sun slipped into a void, insects chattered, and the sky began to glow. It was truly the most magical experience. That moment just before the sun slipped away – that was the moment I had waited for.

Here we are again – I blinked and seven years blew by. The anticipation is real and I'm here for it. I hope you take some time to go outside and see the eclipse today, even if it’s cloudy. Make sure you wear solar eye protection during the partial eclipse if the sun is out. It is only safe to take glasses off if you are in the path of totality during totality (approx 3:12 PM in north Columbus, OH).

Dana made everything so easy! We planned our 200 guest wedding in Ohio from Maryland and it was not the easiest task. Especially since we had never planned a wedding and being 6 hours away did not help. Dana immediately put our minds at ease and made the process actually FUN instead of just anxiety inducing... ✨ NOMINATIONS ✨
Better late than never to share this, but Thyme & Details received nominations/awards recently — Columbus Best of Weddings nomination, The Knot Best of Weddings Award, and Wedding Wire Couple Choice Awards. Thank you!!

Many years ago, the existence of Thyme & Details was just a dream… a long shot. But now I try to remember - what would younger Dana say about all this? It’s humbling! I could not have made this business what it is and impacted the couples and community without my incredible team, clients, local vendors, and personal support system.

My parents never told me I couldn’t do something. A lot of these personal and professional milestones I have them to thank for. Even when I went off on the weekends and evenings in high school to work weddings, they just wanted me to be safe. There was nothing else to it. I think they knew I would make mistakes and learn from them on my own without them telling me beforehand all of the things that may go wrong.

Happy anniversary to us! ✨ In my line of work, I’m constantly reminded how lucky I am to have found my person. It makes me grateful we’ve been able to share so much of our lives together.

This year we shall celebrate on the DL because next year we are planning to do it up BIG!

Today is a wonderful day!​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Today officially marks wedding week for T & J!! I’m so excited that their day is almost here - it’s going to be magical!

This is also the last wedding of the season for many of us so there’s an extra special, celebratory vibe all around! I’m excited for this week, and some much needed time off afterwards going into the new year ✨ ✨

Lastly, today I’m FINALLY feeling more myself after being disgustingly sick for a full week with a sinus infection.

Happy Friday friends 🌞

Adding a photo of me doing what I love, from an incredible day last fall! It makes me HAPPY on a day full of mixed emotions.

I’m here to be honest and keep it real.

A LOT has changed in my life, clients’ lives, and lives throughout the world in the last few months/year. There has been a lot of good (and it’s hard to give the good the credit most days), but there’s also been a lot of pain.

I feel it… all. I have my day to day joys and pains, and the joys and pains of my clients during particularly key moments in their lives. Wedding planners wear many hats, and many times that includes therapist and metaphorical punching bag (although not okay, it’s the reality). This year has been a challenge, but I’m grateful for it all. Lots of learning, growing, and EXPANDING this year 🤍

I’m SO excited for what’s in store for the rest of 2023, and into 2024!

I’m sorry for my lack of effort on social media the last few weeks/months. Some other things have had to come first 🤍 I’m excited to get back into it and share all of the incredible things we’ve been working on the last few months!

Last - but certainly not least - the pains in the world. I wish I had a more eloquent response. I’m frankly disappointed and just sad. I feel I owe it to the community to share where I/Thyme & Details stands — no violence, no xenophobia, just peace. What’s happening in Israel/Palestine is not okay. It’s awful that there’s so much violence and misinformation. Please listen and think before you speak and take a stance. It’s not a simple issue and can be unintentionally hurtful to “pick a side” when we really don’t have all the information. What is simple, is that what’s happening is not okay. I wish for peace 🙏🏻

– Have your planner/coordinator, venue, photo/videographer, caterer, florist, DJ/Band and any other top priorities locked in! (ex. hair and makeup artists)

– Have your dress and/or custom suit on order (renting, off the rack, semi-custom folks have more time).

– Send your Save the Dates NOW! (if you haven’t already)

– Finish booking baker, rentals, hotel block(s), transportation, rehearsal dinner / brunch venue(s), musicians, live painter, activities.

– Select your officiant ASAP or remind a loved one to get ordained and licensed in the next couple of months.

– Order your wedding bands.

– Get inspired & start designing your invitations (send them in early July).

– Finalize plans for shower(s) and bach parties, as applicable (sometimes seasonally dependent).

ONE-YEAR CHECK-IN: If you’re getting married in Fall 2024….​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​You should:

– Finalize your guest list (need a firm idea for # of guests).

– Book your planner (first vendor)!

– Finalize your budget and who is contributing (your planner will help you create a realistic, itemized budget).

– Lock in your venue and any other high priorities! (ex. specific photographer, officiant, DJ, florist, live painter, etc., etc.)

– Invite loved ones to your wedding party (i.e. bridesmaids, groomsmen, attendants, flower children, etc., etc.), and figure out who will need the day of hair and makeup.

– Have your dress and/or custom suit on order (renting, off the rack, semi-custom folks have more time).

– Design your wedding website and Save the Dates (you’ll send these in the next three months).

– Start looking into hotel blocks.

– Start looking at & interviewing mid-priority vendors – this is different for everyone (ex. hair and makeup, rentals, baker, transportation, rehearsal dinner/brunch venue(s), musicians, activities, etc., etc.)

– Get inspired & start designing with the help of your planner, florist, and/or decorator.

– Think about your attire (made-to-order dresses and custom suits can take over six months to get in, plus time for alterations).

Hey y’all! 👋🏼 I’m Dana!​​​​​​​​​
I’m so grateful you are here! For those who don’t know me yet, I’m the lady in the middle here, and the lady behind the door managing the behind-the-scenes details for one of my extraordinary couples in the next photo. I’ll share some facts about myself for this so you can get to know me a bit!

♡ I am not southern. I just have close relatives in Georgie who have always used “y’all” so I have grown up with it and adopted it, too. I prefer to use “y’all” over “you guys”, but sometimes I can’t help the “you guys” habit thanks to my midwest upbringing!

♡ I have one sister (pictured here on the left). I’m so lucky to have her in life and to have her help with my clients' weddings occassionally!

♡ When I’m not working, I’m probably outside, boxing 🥊, watching Real Housewives, trying a new restaurant, trying a new cocktail 🍸 or wine 🍷, or just goofing off with my husband! I love celebrating all of my couples' love because I know how precious it is to “find your person”.

♡ A group of friends calls me “Sustainable Dana” instead of “Dana Watts”. I care about sustainability and finding a balance between People, Profit, and Planet in every aspect of my life. I try to break down the barriers when it comes to this word. It does not need to be pretentious or overwhelming. Sustainability is about doing better, not being perfect!

♡ I would consider myself a “dog person” but here I am with two rescue cats, no dogs. I love my cats like they are human! Gloria (one of the cats) and I are obsessed with each other. The moment I walk in the door, she is by my side until I walk out the door again. You will definitely see her if we talk via video chat!

♡ I believe everything happens for a reason.

Through Eden Reforestation Projects, Thyme & Details planted 1,102 trees from Q4 2022 events!! YAY!! 🌱​​​​​​​​

Planting of these (Mangrove) trees not only clean the air and offsets emissions generated by our events, but provides fair wage jobs, coastline protection, and biodiverse habitat for many developing areas around the globe.​​​​​​​​

"Dana and her team were amazing! My mom and I both work full time jobs and are generally pretty busy so we felt like we needed extra support on the wedding. We weren't sure if we needed a full blown wedding planner or a wedding coordinator so we opted for the hybrid model. My husband and I were engaged for 13 months. We were living in a different state than the wedding so there was a lot of moving parts. Keeping all repeat names straight AHH! I love each and every one of my clients so not to give "numbers" to people, but it's quite an accomplishment that I never goofed up a name combo! ​​​​​​​​

Thyme & Details planted 937 more trees for Q3 2022 through ! 🌱
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Terra Pass estimates that the average wedding generates 62 metric tons of CO2. These 937 (Mangrove) trees will remove approximately 280 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere in their lifetime. This means that this batch of trees will offset nearly 75% of the emissions from Thyme & Details' events in Q3, AND provide jobs with fair wages, coastline protection, and biodiverse habitat for many developing areas around the globe.

I'm always playing around with estimates, and trying to reduce our event emissions in other ways. Hopefully the % is higher than 75% in actuality. We will keep moving forward and try to get this to well over 100% in the future! It's not about perfection – it's about doing the little things that are better for the greater good, and sharing these good things!
