Line dance class at Tallahassee Senior Center on Tuesday, April 9th, is cancelled. One of my older brothers passed away.

On January 25, Florida State University's "Club Downunder" sponsored a line dance event and asked me to teach and lead the event. It was an honor to have been invited to do so.

What an exciting event. I totally enjoyed teaching and dancing at FSU's Club Downunder. It was a fun time and everyone had a great time dancing; whether it was their first time learning to line dance or were line dancers already. My guess was that we had 60 or 70 FSU students who attended. The event was a great success.

Taught six dances of varying complexity and by the end of the two hour event, everyone had mastered the dances. I would love to be able to hold a weekly class there as there are so many dances, a bit more complex but so much more fun, that they are capable of.

Here are the dances they mastered; no small accomplishment for the beginners and even a challenge to the line dancers simply because of the number of new dances.

Desperado Slide to "Fast As You"
Miss You to "Down In The Muddy Waters"
Crazy Postman to "Brights Lights, Big City"
T**h Push to "Earthquake"
Copperhead Road to "Copperhead Road"
Hog Wild to "Club Savoy"

Line dancing tonight. See everyone there.

Tallahassee Line Dancing group

Class attendance has been dropping over the last few weeks to the point where the benefit of continuing the class is not worth the time and effort required of me. It may be the time of year but of that I am not sure.

I am going to give it a couple more weeks to see if things turn around before making a final decision. That will carry us through until the 31st of October, the day I was going to be out of town. On the 24th, I will, depending on attendance, either decide to carry on with the class or bring the class to a close and let you know.

We have had a run of almost two years and I have enjoyed teaching and dancing with you all. I hope to continue the class but things change and it may be time to bring it to an end.

Hi Kristy
I am going to be out of town on Tuesday, Oct. 31st, and will need to cancel the line dance class for that night. I will notify my class and notice the Facebook group. Wanted to let you know so you could follow through on your end.

Thanks

I like this dance and the song it is danced to and have have wanted to learn it for more than a year. This is and Advanced Phase dance, meaning aside from its difficult moves and patterns, it has sections, or phases, that need to danced in a specific order. It is made up of Sections A, B, C, and C- and includes one or more Restarts.

Nevertheless, I like the dance and despite its complexity have decided to learn it. Worked my way through Sections A and B. Wish there were someplace I could dance it with others…it is a sharp and neat dance.

Some of us went over to Dukes and Dotties to check out the line dancing going on there. Picked up two or three new dances we’ll add to our list of line dances for our Tallahassee Line Dancing Tuesday night group.

Two of the dances were done to the songs “Merry Go Round” and “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)”. For lack of any information as to their choreographers and names, they are identified as Merry Go Round and Shake It For Me. I am going to make an effort to identify them as well as identify the songs they were choreographed to.

Our group is planning on visiting Dukes and Dotties on May 18…..giving us time to learn some of the dances being done there.

So far, we are working on Cowboy Casanova, Cowboy Rhythm, Wagon Wheel, and Dizzy…pretty much good to go on those with a little more review.

Contacting some friends to see what other dances they are doing.

We can add Watermelon Crawl also.

If we decide to visit Dukes and Dotties, here are two dances we should learn.

One of the dances done at the Moon and, from what I’ve heard, at Dukes and Dotties, is Cowboy Cassanova. We have been learning this one.

Another one of the dances done at the Moon and, from what I’ve heard, at Dukes and Dotties is Cowboy Rhythm (video below). Not a hard dance at all. They dance it to a different, and my memory says, faster song.

Next Tuesday, we will talk about a visit to the new Country Line Dance spot, Dukes and Dotties by our group, Tallahassee Line Dancers. Some folks have mentioned maybe visiting. I think it would be a good idea to let everyone have a sense of what it is.

From what I have heard so far, Thursday night would be the night most suitable for our group.

Would be a good idea to ensure that we know three or four line dances done at Dukes and Dotties before we go. It is very difficult to “pick up” a dance on the floor if it is crowded (which I’ve heard it is); especially if the dance is more than a beginner level dance.

If we have enough interest, we will pick a date for the visit. May 11th would be the earliest I would be able to make it due to scheduling conflicts. However it might be best to delay it another week or so to give us a little more time to to ensure our group knows at least three or four dances (May 18th or so).

We will talk about it next Tuesday.

Notice!

Tallahassee Line Dancing will be cancelled March 14 due to an event at the Tallahassee Senior Center.

This Is Important……

Below is a list of the dances which I have taught for the beginner and intermediate classes. I have provided step sheets and included videos (demo and teaching videos) of nearly all of these dances on our Facebook Group Page. I am providing this list for those who wish to identify, review and practice these dances (until you have learned them).

Based on my own personal experience, both as a beginner and later, one can never really maintain a presence as a line dancer and expect to keep up in a line dance class unless one is willing to work at and review at home the dances that are being taught in class.

Take it from me that one can not just show up at class during a teach, go home with no further effort put into it, and then come back during the following week expecting to remember and do a dance taught the previous week. Without some personal effort at home and despite the fact that I teach a dance and review that dance a minimum of three weeks, it just will not stick.

As the list of dances we teach grows larger, it becomes impractical and impossible to continue reviewing dances on the floor and the end result is that, for those who have put no effort into learning the dances beyond attending class, you find yourselves falling further and further behind; ultimately growing discouraged and falling out.

Another effect is that taking class time to continually review dances in class means means that the number of dances done in class each night is significantly less than what we can do.

This is all to say that I encourage everyone to take one dance at a time, particularly one being taught and reviewed in class, look up the demo/teach video in our FacebookGroup page, and spend some out -of-class time at home reviewing/ learning the dance.

Last night went well. Good to see Kelly back…was worried about her because she had a bout of sickness before she dropped out for a couple weeks.

Class is doing well….Quickly reviewed two beginner level dance; Fallsview Rock and Quarter To Six and spent most of that hour dancing. Great job everyone.

For the Intermediate class, in depth review of Head Over Boots. Everyone did great, maybe a quick review next week. Taught Ghost Riders In The Sky, a fast, fun dance using the song Down Into Muddy Waters. Amazing how quickly everyone picked that dance up. Great job. Spent the rest of that hour dancing.

Going to repeat this class next week. Less review as everyone did so well. More time dancing🙂🙂.

🙂🙂Nice dance to a nice song. Going to add it to my list of dances to teach.
