Crcckett is located right off the highway about 20 minutes from Berkeley and half an hour from the town of Napa. Since so many things are of interest and an inspiration to Kathleen: history, nature,fashion,music,art,theater,d

ance, trends of yesterday and today.............they all play into into whatever she makes. It can be your wedding dress, it can be a belly dance costume, drapes for your home, a well fitting pair of pants, expert alterations or a giant floor cloth for a grocery store installation...........her technical experience and ability to hear what the client envisions is her strength. Her understanding of what people wore before modern times - and why - gives what she makes now something extra special.

Done with Hamilton - that was an intense 6 weeks with a crazy schedule! Finished up some oldies but goodies today to ship tomorrow. Going to a stitching gig over at Berkeley Repertory Theatre tomorrow with a normalish schedule - with hopefully some time to work on more projects in my studio. That, and catch up with friends and get some rest!

Tis almost the end of 2024 and Lordie, has this year been busy........I cant believe that it's almost Christmas. Best laid plans, ups and downs, election dramas and traumas. The highlight of my year was being asked if I would be interested on working on something for Kamala's nieces to wear to the inauguration. There was no promise of it actually happening, but it felt like a sure thing and I trust the person who approached me. So on top of all the national Drama, I was kinda sorta keeping my fingers crossed for purely selfish reasons. My fingers in the pie of history and all that. But twas not to be and now Im working backstage at Hamilton. Im in charge of keeping the Sisters dresses all nice and pretty. Not quite the same joy as would have been with being able to work on current history, but I was honored to be considered in the first place and now I get to work on Hamilton - a fine and fun show to be sure! My favorite time in history and history made in and of itself. So there ya go.

Im also currently making a custom Tizzy Lizzy skirt for a lovely customer from Etsy. These are a bit more wearable than the longer and heavier Bessie skirts if you are not into all the fabric around your ankles!

Im planning a trip to LA soon to buy fabric for making more of these fun little skirts and other things! It's been hard to juggle it all, but I see maybe a bit less theater work in the future and more focus on making clothing again.

I thrift A LOT. And one thing I always search for and find are good sewing supplies. These might be reproductions, but I’m really not sure. The only thing that I care about is that the needles are strong and don’t break. I had to make some repairs on the last show I was on and the needles in their kit kept breaking. I just finished two projects this weeks with a great deal of heavy hand sewing. I used older needles that did not bend or break. New is not better - nor is it going to get better.

So much stitching and bitching for A.C.T.’s A Christmas Carol right now. But these are awfully cute little dresses! ...

Straightening up my studio means rearranging furniture from one end of the house to the other. But I have dusted and vacuumed and cleaned every surface. Now I’m ready to sew. This is my Grandma Zudis’s sewing machine that I plan to restore in all my spare time - and after I find a home for what I piled on top of it. I sewed on it a bit as a kid, but we always had one of those awesome Kenmores that were hard to kill.

Was having a bit of a stressful day with an alterations deadline ( yes, I’m doing them again) and a no show appointment, but a dear friend hijacked me and drove me out to Port Costa. So of course I came home with a treasure from and her beautiful Theatre Of Dreams atelier. I found this amazing 5 yard piece of diaphanous stripe from the 1920’s and a very gorgeous and impeccable 3 yard piece of cotton lining fabric from probably the 1890’s - although I’ve seen this in bodices from the 1850’s. She’ll be having her sale of luscious velvets, laces, cottons and silks again next weekend. I really had to restrain myself, but I may have to go back for more…

I was having a great time. Minding my own business. Finishing garments that I had started to work on last year. Then all of a sudden it’s too hot and I’m sitting in the shady, much neglected part of my backyard. The part where the bugs, snakes, and wildlife live.
