As Party City is set to close here is your reminder that we can serve your helium balloon needs!

I’ll be honest, I’ve had mixed feelings about this closure. I never feel good when a business closes or when people lose their jobs. Especially around the holidays…. That said Party City has had balloons as a loss leader for years because it got people into the stores for their highly profitable paper goods. This has made it impossible to compete, and created an expectation that balloons are cheap… when in reality our cost has been soaring for years.

When I started in balloons, businesses would literally give balloons away. We could sell a loose dozen for $10 and make money. Now my cost on a single latex is WELL over a dollar, close to 2 , and then we factor in loss (not sure if you noticed but balloons pop!) time to arrange to make bouquets, hi-float and needing to pay bills to run a business and ourselves. I’ve said for years when people ask me about price differences that Party City SOLD helium balloons below our cost.

So over the years I have seen that category of business lessen even though we tried to have unique offerings. We make balloons in a balloon, tulle covered balloons, tulle ribbon, tassels, fringe, confetti, glitter , gumball stuff, bubbles, lights, patterns, customization, and add squiggles.

The last time I picked up helium my tank cost increased 25% without warning… an extra $75 per 400 latex or an increase cost of 18 cents each. That’s more than what it cost us to make a helium latex when I started in this business 15 years ago .

All this to say, we deliver helium balloons throughout northwest Indiana and Chicago and will continue to do so. You can order 40 bouquets to be delivered and setup at 8 am before your meeting, or one beautiful and fun bouquet for a birthday surprise, and anything in between. But it will be at a price that pays our staff living wages, and also keeps our business afloat.
