One of my favorite stops during Bar Convent Brooklyn: Maison Premiere.
I finally made it to one of New York’s iconic cocktail bars for oysters, absinthe, and an incredible drink. Even better, I had my copy of the Maison Premiere Almanac signed, making it a keepsake from a bar that’s inspired bartenders around the world.
Every trip is another chance to learn from the people and places pushing this industry forward. Looking forward to bringing a little of that inspiration into my own coffee cocktails.

Coffee should shape the cocktail—not just disappear into it.
This Ethiopian from DCR Coffee immediately reminded me of a Southern peach cobbler, so I leaned into it.
A split base of chamomile-infused gin and rye, brown sugar syrup with lactic acid for a creamy texture, and peach liqueur to bring out every note in the cup. The result drinks like a Southern dessert, even though the coffee was roasted in Washington.
Coffee: DCR Coffee – Ethiopia Hafursa Tasting notes: Peach cobbler • Chamomile • Brown sugar
What coffee should I build around next?

One of my favorite meals in France wasn’t in Paris.
La Musardière, tucked away in Giverny, was recommended in the Michelin Guide, but it still felt warm and unpretentious.
Great food, a cozy bar, and an espresso machine that never seemed to stop working. Sometimes the places you remember most aren’t the fanciest—they’re the ones that simply get everything right.

A package from Youngstown Coffee Co. showed up this week, and they absolutely spoiled me.
Huge thanks for trusting me with these coffees. Over the next few weeks I’ll be building original coffee cocktails and espresso martinis around each origin, letting the coffee’s tasting notes guide every recipe.
Which bag should I start with first?

Paris has no shortage of beautiful cocktail bars, but Bar Nouveau felt different.
Inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, the space blends café culture with modern cocktails in one of the most distinctive bars I visited in the city. The marble horseshoe bar, flowing woodwork, and vintage details make it feel like stepping into another era.
I worked through several of the menu’s signatures, from an elegant cognac highball to a silky Ramos-inspired cocktail, while watching the bartenders build each drink just a few feet away.
Every city has bars worth drinking at. The memorable ones are the places that create an atmosphere you don’t want to leave.

Brooklyn hotel room.

Aeropress.

Coffee roasted back home in Akron.

No matter how many cocktail bars, coffee festivals, and cities I visit, there’s something satisfying about bringing a little piece of home along for the ride.

Boston felt like the right place to slow down for a minute.

Guinness.

Shepherd’s pie.

A seat at the bar in one of the city’s historic taverns.

Between cocktail bars, coffee shops, and airports, sometimes the best drink is just a properly poured pint.

What’s your favorite historic bar?

Walked into Astor Wines & Spirits in NYC and immediately lost track of time.

Most people see bottles.

I see a dozen cocktail ideas.

Bonal, Byrrh, Mattei, Sfumato, Braulio, Alta Verde, Montenegro, Meletti…

If you’re into amaros, quinquinas, mistelles, and weird fortified wines, this place is dangerous.

I somehow left without buying half the store.

What’s the one bottle you’d grab first?

One year ago I found myself at the grand opening of BarChef New York.

I got to perform magic, meet Frankie Solarik and the BarChef team, and experience the kind of cocktails that made me rethink what a drink could be.

Looking back, a lot of the ideas I’m chasing today started with places like this.

Still learning. Still experimenting. Still carrying a deck of cards.
