The Deep Ellum Big Folkin Festival 3 is happening March 28th and 29th, 2014. Folk, it’s a dirty four-letter word commonly associated with hippies, camp sites and other perils that come with spending time in nature. Jeremy Drake (Parallel Play) and Joel Fruth (The Prophet Bar) are snatching folk from back porches and glorifying this music within Dallas’s arts and entertainment district, Deep Ellum.
This annual folk-alternative event showcases the many sides of modern folk music on four stages at the Prophet Bar. Americana, antifolk, singer/songwriter, bluegrass, indie, cowpunk, roots, folk rock, rockabilly and blues are all represented in a variety of combinations. It’s a playbill that will deliver a proper mindfolk. The festival’s eclectic atmosphere will be loud, rambunctious and certain to transpire the rowdiest of crowds. DISCLAIMER: No camping required for this festival, in fact it's prohibited. Hippie influence minimized and all drum circles will be squarely eliminated. Use caution when a banjo is being operated for a hootenanny may occur.
