I have to tell y’all about this gorgeous lady, Brandis. I chose her as my mode through the . We met at Blue Bridal Boutique for her to try on gowns and spoiler alert: she looked amazing in all of them. BUT - more importantly, she and I hit it off. She’s a lovely young woman with a good heart. She’s a also a humble go-getter. After we met, I texted her and asked if she’d like to assist me on wedding days. She’s in college and is just up for any type of learning experience. I love that attitude and will always be drawn to it. I’m grateful our paths crossed both personally and professionally. PSA: Let’s talk seating charts. I cannot emphasize this enough: SORT ALPHABETICALLY BY LAST NAME, NOT TABLE. Yes, I’m yelling. 😁 Here’s why:

🌟Avoid bottlenecks: it takes guests awhile to find their names when the chart is listed by table. Therefore it take longer to get to their seats. This delays your timeline.
🌟How do you think it feels as the guest who’s read through 29 tables only to find themself at table 30? By then, they’re even wondering if their name is on the chart. Are they at the “reject” table? Did the couple forget they were coming? It’s just not a good guest experience.

How do I, as a planner, handle guest seating regardless of which sort my client has chosen? I use spreadsheet with two tabs - alphabetical by last name and sorted by table. My assistant and/or I stand near the seating chart as guests filter into the reception space. This allows us to eliminate any time wasted by guests searching and get them to their seats in a timely manner. We can easily find the guests’ names and if they’re curious who else is sitting at their table, we just flip to the other tab.

So, what’s the rule again? Alphabetical by last name. Do your timeline and your guests a favor and don’t ignore this PSA. Love to all!
