The Story Alchemy Botanical Design
So have you ever drove by the silhouette of an oak tree against the sunrise and thought wow or walked in the rainforest of Oregon and appreciated how the moss hangs from the trees or how that one leaf left on that tree seemed just perfect so artistically perfect. This is the gift that Mother Nature has given us, her artistic perfection, an organized chaos. That is what I attempt to duplicate with my wreaths, arrangements and floral headpieces. They will not be completely balanced, they will not be cute or sweet, but they will interesting, eclectic, odd and beautiful in an organized chaos kind of way. I went to floral design school about 25 years ago and learned the basics, studied Ikebana, made some wreaths, worked for several different designers, ran my own bridal floral design business for a couple of years, never really fulfilled with my designs or what I was doing. So decided to go back to college to get my degree in soil science. Somehow this science degree along with getting me an awesome 9-5 job, helped me develop my own sense of design. I think it was understanding how plants grow under different environmental conditions, and Geometry and Physics, yes weirdly math and math based science helped me understand how to come up with the mechanics necessary to create a counter balance in design that i never had before. So me and my design evolved, I quit worrying about if everyone else liked what I created and just created things i thought were beautiful. It seems that others think these designs are beautiful as well and so Alchemy Botanical Design is reborn, an eclectic designer with an eclectic following, we will continue to evolve together, trying new things, learning about angles, nature, mechanics and creating odd floral art.
