Hello! I’m Jose Camacho! It’s not just a name; A Barefoot Photographer is exactly who I am. It’s not just what is or isn’t on my feet that makes me great. It’s good, solid, consistent photography that is the result of roughly 5 years of photos. From club shots to scenic photos in Canada, California, and everywhere in between, A Barefoot Photographer lives live with a laid-back, down-to-earth philosophy that means I don’t try to intimidate anyone with absurd rates or forced shots. Instead, I prefer the natural, relaxed look of all who my lenses capture. If someone living their best life isn’t for you and you prefer a stuffy person in a suit, perhaps you don’t need a barefoot photographer.
Since taking an interest in photography for a decade, I’ve come across a myriad of photographers that seem to be detached from the crowd. To them, it’s a job; a quick buck to go in and out of an event practically unseen. No true engagement. Only stopping here and there by others wanting a photo with their friends. Sometimes the photographer obliges. More often than not, they turn away to focus on the next big shot.
Time and time again, I enjoy seeing people light up in moments that would forever be lost in time. Smiles and laughs shared with absolute strangers, yet united under one theme. No anger. No hatred. Just pure, unfiltered joy. To be in the midst of those fleeting moments is why I love photography so much, so I feel that when it truly matters to capturing that wink or grin, the person taking the photo doesn’t truly matter. Only that the moment was captured.
I’ve always been a laid-back person with a very laid-back style to business and pleasure. Wearing a tank-top, shorts, and my birthday shoes every event I take photos at, I’ve realized how I look isn’t what matters to someone getting their photo taken. My role is simply to engage a person to act themselves; in essence, disappearing altogether from the scene so that only they exist even in the biggest of crowds. If anything, being barefoot means no one can even hear me coming as I get that priceless candid shot.
