If you have ever wanted to try something new or step outside of your comfort zone then it’s time to start dancing! I tell people that I teach that one of the best things you can do for yourself is learn how to dance and so many people wait until later in their life to finally take that leap when the reality is they could be using it all these years. Every function with music is now more enjoyable
because you know how to dance to it. You become more coordinated, stronger, aware of your body, less intimidated, more outgoing and it is a hobby that requires no materials and can be done whenever the mood strikes you. I can easily say learning ballroom changed my life in a way that I would never have been able to fathom and I want to share that rewarding experience with you. I have been dancing for the majority of my life with Michael Jackson being one of my main “dancpirations”. If there was music, I could usually be found dancing. I have been teaching ballroom for 7 years and it has become such a passion of mine to not only be able to dance personally but to enlighten others of what they are capable of with the right training and guidance. Most people feel that they cannot dance and in the hundreds of students I’ve had not one has been unteachable. We all have the ability to maneuver our bodies in ways we never thought possible. But just like anything you become proficient in, it takes a little time and effort. For couples it’s a new bonding between them, a whole new level of communication and intimacy, a hobby they can do TOGETHER where you get to hold your loved one in your arms. It is a date night, it is physical, it is entertaining and the best part is, you can use it the rest of your life at any functions or events or places around town. For singles this is a great way to meet people, to expand your social life, to conquer your shyness, to challenge your mind and body, to do something for you where the payoff is seeing yourself in a way you never thought. It builds confidence, balance, coordination, rhythm, mental alertness, and has even been attributed to helping with Alzheimer’s and body conditioning in a low impact activity. Every day you put off learning how to dance is a day you are keeping yourself from a unique form of happiness that until you do it, you won’t ever know. To say I am high energy is an understatement. My mission is to get you dancing as quickly as possible without rushing your education in any way. I have about 100 analogies for any particular piece of material I show you. My goal is to know you well enough that I am able to understand how you learn because just like snowflakes every person learns differently. I adore personal contact and love being invited t=into the lives of others and because of that I find it very easy to connect with my students to help them in their journey to becoming a dancer. I specialize in beginners which I call the actual process of learning how to learn. After the completion of school we tend to stop doing things that require us to learn and that makes us even rusty at the learning process and being able to invite in new information. Adding the body into that can be overwhelming and I make sure that does NOT happen. If you have danced in the past and are looking to be a little more stylish in your dancing then technique is defiantly a huge part of my teachings. It is what gives a dance its personality and tells the story with your body. It can add grace, sexiness, attitude, happiness, strength, power, effortless appearing movements. Some people are just looking to be good comfortable social dancers where others may want to look like and possibly even be at more of a competitive level. Or maybe you are wanting something fun and fresh for your BIG DAY instead of swaying back and forth to your wedding dance. Maybe you want to do a flash mob and need some choreography for that. Maybe it’s your family reunion and instead of an all-day eat a thon you all decide to learn some line dances together. Or maybe you have children who need a little extra help working towards their dance goals. All of these are reason to see me! I am currently teaching out of Viva Dance Studio which is renowned for its salsa credentials. I am also working with the 50 plus program in Johnson County and doing a small assortment of children’s classes including pre-ballet for 3-6 year olds, pr***en hip hop and the occasional hoop class (yes, hula hooping) so that makes me very versatile in the type of people I work with in addition to the variety of dances itself. I specialize in ballroom which encompasses several dances. Most of us who are not familiar with ballroom typically lump them in this genre that includes waltz, foxtrot and tango. And yes, they are in fact ballroom dances there is so much more to it. I personally teach Waltz, Foxtrot, American Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha, East Coast Swing (single-savoy and triple rhythm), West Coast Swing, Hustle, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Two Step and Night Club Two Step. Those are ALL considered ballroom dances. I also teach line dances, hoop dancing (which is an excellent workout burning around 650 calories an hour), children’s ballet, hip hop, cheer and am constantly trying to expand my knowledge every opportunity I can. I can be used for private lessons, group classes, special outings or team building activities, children’s birthday parties, wedding dances, choreographed routines of any type, and Pro/Am competitions. I am pretty pen to touching the lives of others with dance so if you can think of something else that maybe I didn’t mention I am all ears. My only advertising is my students. They are a reflection of my teaching and are my voice as to how my methods work and if they are having fun or no. The bottom line is this is meant to add joy to your life and each lesson with me even if it is challenging I assure you will always be fun! How else am I going to get you to keep coming back! I am no contract although I do like to have a verbal commitment from you so I can have some structure and planning to your learning. I also do not charge you for specific material. However fast you learn is the pace I will go at and whatever you can handle I will teach you. You are paying for my time so it is the same cost for a single as a couple unless you would like an added teacher at any point which can help your dancing further in certain situations.
