The “first look” has increasingly gained popularity in recent years, and it’s no mystery why! The intimate reveal allows a soon-to-be husband to drink in the glory of his beautiful bride — without having to “act tough” for an audience. He may not cry in front of friends and family, but he’ll bare his soul to his lover. ❤️

Doing a first look can also help create wiggle room in a wedding schedule. Normally, the couple misses most of cocktail hour as they complete all the usual photos — bride and groom, wedding party, family, etc. However, a first look allows the couple to schedule some of these portraits *before* the ceremony, instead — which means more time to enjoy cocktail hour with their guests!

P.S. The third wedding wasn’t actually planned by Honor & Grace — because that bride is me (Holly)! My wedding was planned by of . Gini planned her own wedding and chose not to do a first look. 😜

We had the opportunity to coordinate this fun and fast-paced backyard wedding last September! The event was hosted by the groom’s mother — and here’s what she had to say about it afterward:

“Recently my son was married at my house. Stressful right? No not at all. Honor and Grace planned, organized and directed us impeccably so that we could focus on enjoying and savoring the special day. From the beginning I found Gini and Holly to be very adaptable and empathetic to our needs. Thorough and complete too, they didn’t rest until everything was perfectly planned and executed. Highly recommend!” 😍

We’re pleased to announce that, after encountering some unexpected issues, we finally have our business Instagram up and running! 😂 Please follow us on IG at .and.grace.weddings!

Anyway, just because we weren’t busy on social media doesn’t mean that we weren’t busy in real life! Most recently, we coordinated the most stunning wedding in Larkspur. The weather was perfect, the venue was picturesque, and — most importantly — the couple was SO in love! It was such a pleasure to be a part of their special day.

Additionally, this wedding was exceptionally memorable for us because we both had newborns! Thankfully, the couple was incredibly accommodating, so our babies accompanied us to the wedding rehearsal — and they behaved beautifully. ❤️

The next day, Gini’s mom kept Lilah in a back room at the venue, while Holly’s husband brought Rhys to the wedding just after the start of dancing. Thus, both babies were safe and well-fed, while we had the opportunity to focus on the important work before us.

We love our job, and we love our family — and we were so grateful that this event allowed us to do both!

When you hire Honor & Grace, you’re getting more than *just* wedding planners. Depending on the needs of your big day, each of us might also become a florist, an MC, a hostess, a therapist, a construction manager — or, in the case of this wedding, a makeup artist!
This bride had already selected a makeup artist long before her wedding, but she changed her mind after their trial — only a few weeks before the wedding! She immediately called us with her conundrum, and we discussed her options. Since she was a full-service planning client, we would happily do our usual vendor selection method: compile a list of suitable candidates, reach out for quotes, and send her a list of the best three options. Or… she could acquire one of us as a makeup artist, instead! To our delight, she chose the latter option.
Since the couple lived out-of-state, we scheduled our makeup trial for the weekend of their final walkthrough. During this trial, we chose colors for the bride’s foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, etc. — and, more importantly, the bride had the opportunity to communicate exactly what she wanted for her bridal makeup. With that groundwork laid, we were fully prepared on the morning of the big day!
The couple’s venue was stunning, but big! During the pre-wedding hubbub, we wedding planners were rarely even within shouting distance of each other. But, the best aspect of our partnership is that we work in coordination, each when we’re not together. While I (Holly) did this bride’s makeup, Gini checked everything else off of our to-do list and managed all the events *outside* of the ladies’ prep room. We kept in near-constant contact, so when the bride was ready, Gini immediately shuttled the groom upstairs for the most adorable first look. ❤
In short — we loved being involved in so many aspects of this wonderful wedding!

Let’s begin with the obvious: On your wedding day, you want to be absolutely sure that your helpers understand and can execute your vision — and that’s why you should hire professionals for the really important stuff!

At a wedding we coordinated this past September, the bride had a gorgeous vision for her ceremonial arch — only, her inspiration picture had disappeared! Instead, she drew up a quick sketch of her idea and asked if we could bring it to life.

Thankfully, we knew to ask some clarifying questions before beginning. (You know what they say about assuming!) For instance: Did she want the fabric drape before or behind the arch? How many floral cages per side? Were there any extra flowers to fill in the gaps?

Once we were certain of the bride’s desires, we went to work. We were glad that there were two of us — that way, one could hold the floral cages while the other stood back to provide perspective on placement. Since it’s important to firmly attach floral cages to an arch, we made sure to bring pliers and zip-ties — just in case the florist had forgotten to include them! We added extra flowers to fill in the gaps, then draped the fabric as our bride had wanted. Furthermore, since that day was really windy, we used a staple gun to secure the fabric across the top of the arch and in two places along the vertical sides. This ensured that the artistic drapes would remain loose and flowy, rather than crazy and wind-swept! Lastly, we trimmed up the bottom of the fabric, which had gotten frayed by the dry grasses behind the arch.

All told, we were pretty pleased with the final product — and even better, so was the couple!

In short: while we highly recommend recruiting friends and family to help prepare for your wedding day, you should probably only entrust the really important tasks to professionals. After all, how many times have your friends and family decorated a ceremonial arch? 😉

WSJ recently published an article entitled "Planning a Wedding for 2022 May Be Harder Than Finding Your Soul Mate".

That's true — but, "harder" doesn't have to mean "impossible"! Here are four tips for planning your wedding in the midst of a boom:

1. Nail down your budget — early.

Sit down with your partner and critically evaluate what you — and any contributing family members — can afford... and then keep that number in mind! Breakdowns like this one (https://www.brides.com/story/wedding-budget-guide-allocating-funds-staying-on-track) can help you stay on track. Don't make the mistake of blowing 90% of your budget when you still have 50% of the wedding left to plan!

2. Decide what's most important to you — and spend your budget accordingly.

What is your biggest desire for your wedding? If your answer is, "A luxurious, intimate night with my closest friends and family," then don't spend your budget inviting random coworkers — spend it on French Champagne, instead! In contrast, if your answer is, "I want a huge party with everyone I know," then invite those coworkers — but swap the Champagne for Prosecco.

3. Set realistic expectations.

The average American wedding costs almost $25k — but a below-average budget doesn't mean that you're doomed to a below-average wedding! It just means that you'll need to put in above-average hustle. A high-quality, low-budget, low-effort wedding is a unicorn (um, it doesn't exist). If you want your wedding to be memorable (in a good way), be prepared either to drop some major cash or to roll up your sleeves and put in some major elbow grease.

4. Get high-quality help for a high-value price.

Even at the best of times, planning a wedding is hard... but in the midst of a wedding boom, it's even harder. So, why not get some expertise in your corner? When you hire Honor & Grace to plan, coach, or coordinate your wedding, you can rest easy knowing that we'll be with you every step of the way — helping you bring your vision to life (or honestly telling you when you're asking for a unicorn). Schedule an in-person or virtual consultation with us, and let's explore how we can best help you navigate the wedding planning process!
