Hi. Valkyrie here. Normally posts here are worded from the point of view of We not me, but that being said this company is me. I research, design, build, and often vend alone. So I thought it best to address you all as me.
I've been struggling the over the last few months to put into words the rage that has been bubbling under the surface of my more often stoic facade.
Valkyrie's Wyrd has always been a community first company. From the very start my goal has been to build community based on shared stories, adventures, and craftsmanship.
So let me be clear. I do not in any way shape or form support ICE or anything the current administration is doing. I believe that no one can be illegal on stolen land. Everyone deserves to live out their lives without the fear of being taken from their homes, families, and children. The number of people ICE agents have murdered just continues to grow and it seems my country's government has no intention of making it stop. Unless we the people make ourselves heard, and force a change, we will continue down a path that looks all too familiar and is already drenched in blood.
My website is down for the weekend as part of the nationwide strike. I will not build for the business over the weekend. If you ordered this week or have an order in queue already, three days will not impact the timeline. You will still get your order within the expected emailed date.
I hold our 1st Amendment right to protest as sacred. I have always been transparent about my beliefs and have openly spoken out against fascists and their actions. I have lost family and friends for being outspoken. I am ok with losing sales.This business is a living offering to the goddesses of fate (the Nornir) and Skadi the goddess of justice. I honor them by helping hold the line. I as a witch, a pagan, and a textile artist would be remiss if I said and did nothing. Art, craft, textiles, clothing, storytelling are ALL political. They are ALL acts of resistance. They always have been.
Going forward, I will be donating 10% of all proceeds to groups and organizations that support my local communities, rapid response networks, immigrant freedom funds. This is in addition to the groups that I have always supported for Trans rights, LGBTQIA2S+ youth support, Abortion rights, and Racial Equality.
Abolish ICE.
