Day 11 and 14k steps. We had the most enjoyable morning wandering aimlessly in the back neighborhoods of Venice. We experienced their unusual way of picking up trash, a gondola, racing team in training, and a family teaching their children how to row a gondola. It rained just before we left for the train station and our four hour trip home. Anotherperfect day in Italy.

Day 10 and 20k+ steps today. Another perfectly gorgeous day today filled with shopping and getting lost on one of the islands. We had a great time wandering aimlessly and finding our way home with the GPS. we truly feel like we saw old Venice and spoke with locals and enjoyed a non-touristy day.

Day 9 and 14 thousand steps. This morning we took the train from Florence to Venice. It’s another beautiful day in Italy and we spent it walking around Venice, enjoying a gondola ride, and feasting on muscles and clams with music at the Basilica Square. The day could not have been more perfect. We’ve lost count at the number of cappuccinos and espressos. Audie has ordered. Today Audie bought me some handmade pasta making tools. I’m confident there is fresh pasta and in the near future.

Day 8. 10,000 steps today. We took a first class train to Florence where we shopped at my favorite store Santa Maria Novella for the most amazing perfumes. Golf cart tours are now our new favorite thing and we had one of Florence this afternoon. Another perfect day in Italy ended with a wonderful dinner at our four star hotel. We love our Airbnb, but this was our little splurge for the trip. Having a great time!

Day 7- 19,000 steps today. At 7 AM we joined a tour group toSorrento and Pompeii. We had another perfect day and a great time. We also toured a lemon cello factory which had a vintage Fiat. Now Audie wants a vintage Fiat.

Day 6. Another beautiful day in Rome, sunny and breezy. We went to the Castel Sant Angelo. Audie has decided he needs a yo-yo car and a Vespa .
We’ve come home for an early dinner of fresh bread, cheeses, olive oil and pesto. Leftover fettuccine will be next. Today we walked over 18,000 steps.

Day five ended with over 19,000 steps today. We had the most amazing evening with a private chef and lessons on making fresh fettuccine, angel hair pasta, and ravioli. We have the recipe for the chef’s grandmothers family sauce. We finished the day with a gelato and a late night walk to St. Peter’s square. We’re not sure what’s going on, but they are setting up for a big presentation by the Pope.

Audie loved the Vatican, but we were both overwhelmed with the shoulder to shoulder crowds everywhere.

Day 4 we are averaging 8 1/2 miles a day since we arrived on Monday. Get lots of walking in and great sightseeing.

Day 3. We did a little shopping today and had a fantastic nighttime golf cart tour. Ended the day with an 11 o’clock PM snack. Audie managed to find the only German restaurant in Rome and had a pretzel sauerkraut, sausage sandwich. I enjoyed an apple strudel:)

After walking over 9 miles today, this is the look on my face when I was told the taxi drivers went on strike this afternoon and we had to figure out a way home. We had a great day!

Day 2 started at a massive market. We came home with cheeses and prosciutto and olive oil, handmade butter, and the most amazing breads. Audie is in a gastronomic heaven.

Day #1 in Rome. Drinks and charcuterie board. Entrance to our Airbnb. Vatican City is just around the corner.
