The Snowdown Chili Cook-Off and Bloody Mary Contest is one of Snowdown’s biggest events and one of its best FUNDRAISERS! Located at the La Plata County Fairgrounds and Event Center.

The date is Saturday, February 1, 2025, with doors opening at noon. The location is the La Plata County Fairgrounds and Events Center. The event ends at 2 pm. Get tasting tickets at the door, or buy them in advance at the pre-sales event happening Friday January 31, 3:30 to 4:30 pm, at a location to be announced.

Chili and Salsa Cooks: arrive as early as 7 am to start cooking, event ends and awards start at 2 pm. Chili/salsa due to judges from 10:30 to 11:45 am depending on style, see rules and info sheet below.
Bloody Mary Contestants: arrive as early as 7 am to start mixing, event ends and awards start at 2 pm. Bloody Mary due to judges by 11 am.
Open to the public for samples: Noon – 2 pm

The 2025 Gold Standard Event Planning Conference, happening this Wednesday, January 15th.
Are you involved with event planning in the City of Durango or La Plata County? If so, join us on January 15, 2025, for the Gold Standard Event Planning Conference. This conference is designed to educate and inspire all event organizers to hold safer and more exciting events. It is open to all who support and host events in La Plata County.

Where: La Plata County Fairgrounds and Event Center
Time: 10 am - 3 pm

AGENDA:
Arrive at 9:30 am to register and pick up your event resource book.
At 10:00 am the Keynote Panel features event organizers from Telluride and other towns similar to Durango sharing their top events and discussing how to balance the appeal to residents and tourists.
Breakout Sessions at 11:10 am , 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm feature tracts for New/Small, Medium and Large events and focus on innovation, safety, marketing, permits and grants.
Event vendors, suppliers and permitters will be available at 2:00 pm for individual conversations.
Lunch from Sage Fresh Eats is included in the registration fee of $25.00.
At lunch, the Innovative Event Award winner will be revealed, new Super Volunteers will be honored and we will hear 4 tales from 2024 that definitely fit in the definition of "School of Hard Knocks."
Join us to explore best practices, consider how we want to grow events in Durango and La Plata County, and understand the opportunities with grants and permitting that already exist.

The Colorado State University Extension-La Plata County and La Plata County Fairgrounds and Event Center will be closed for the holiday from Thursday, November 28th through Sunday, December 1st, 2024. Our offices will reopen on Monday, December 2nd. Have a safe and happy holiday.

WOW, La Plata County folks have shown up in some big numbers today for the Household Hazardous Waste 2024 Collections! We are taking collections through 2 pm today. Bring your patience there is quite a line heading out to Main Avenue. You can only enter by going north on Main Avenue and turning right into the La Plata County Fairgrounds and Event Center parking lot. Tomorrow collections are still being accepted from 8 am to 1 pm.
