In April 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, I moved to Durham, North Carolina for work. The work I was doing consisted of long hours and very little time off, which meant there was no time to meet people or find my community, also a lot of Durham was still on stay-at-home orders. With the stay-at-home orders in place going out to an establishment was pretty impossible to do.
Fast forward to 2021, vaccines have been rolled out, establishments are starting to reopen, and people are starting to socialize again. I have an amazing boyfriend and things are going great, but there is just one thing missing and that is my sense of community. The lack of fellowship with other LGBTQ people has been creating a dark cloud around me and cannot seem to escape it. After searching for my community and failing to find what I’m lacking, I’m wanting to create spaces for LGBTQ people to come out, socialize, feel safe, seen, being part of a community, and understand what it means to belong. That is why I’m creating QUEERout NC: Triangle!
If you are new to the Triangle area and looking to make new q***r friends then come and join us at QUEERoutNC: Triangle. If you from the Triangle and want to see some new faces then come and join us at QUEERoutNC: Triangle. Let's continue to build our community and make sure people know there's a space where they are welcomed and belong!
