Slipping into his next life October 2, 2024, Daniel Kevin Vogel was accepted by a loving God giving peace.
Battling mental illness his entire adult life, Dan was a loving member of his community. Applying his talents to the land, he was a flower farmer and maker of handmade magnolia wreaths. He would often say, “I love to garden!”
His colorful buckets of flowers were pastels and bright colors, varied, and graceful blossoms, giving great pleasure and projecting his love of nature. The green of his wreaths would last long past the holidays for years. Daniel was 69 years old and married to Ethel Allen Vogel for 43 years.
Dan was worthy.
Living most of his life in Orange County, his parents were Stephen and Joyce Vogel, siblings were Stephen, Joseph, Hans, Patrick and Mary. He adored his cousins Karla Vogel, Marty Cannada, Gretchen Vogel and the late Peter Vogel.
Always seeking a friend, he made many friends along the way. The expressions of affection and support have been so greatly appreciated.
Daniel made friends in Tar Heel NC too. He could always get a haircut from Ethel’s father, JE, using vintage 1930’s clippers. “That’s as pretty as I can make you son!” As long as JE was able he loved giving Dan a haircut because Dan enjoyed it. He sipped homemade wine with Glenn Allen and laughed. Fished at every opportunity with Joe Allen at Fort Fisher via Southport. Nephew’s Joe and Sam were always game for escapades, fishing, hunting, whatever. He loved Mama’s and Celia Mae’s cooking. There were so many other people he was happy to see.
Trips were taken to Ocean Isle in September-October. The sea, fishing, food, pelicans, and discovering the fine surprise of migrating Yellow Cloudless Sulphur and Monarch butterflies added wonder to the beach. Ethel saw them wafting along Wednesday afternoon, three weeks ago. She figured he was at peace.
Ethel will miss cooking for him, attending concerts, going on camping trips, the better everyday’s, watching and listening out for him.
Dan was enough.
