We saved the best for last, week 4 of girls in the garden allowed us to get our creative juices flowing. We made garden inspired flat breads and flower crowns. Thanks to the girls foe their awesome participation and the awesome moms that brought them. We hope to have another session in the fall, get in touch if you're interested!

Girls in the garden week 3. We harvested poppy pods, dumped out the seeds and made a poppy seed cake, did an insect scavenger hunt, discussed and picked flowers suitable for drying, and did an herb taste test. Oh and filled tea bags with dried mint and lemon balm. Next week is the grand finale!

Girls-in-the-Garden week 2. Made flower presses, practiced using power tools to build a raised bed, baked zucchini bread, picked flowers and tomatoes, discussed greenhouses and how they work. Next week is at my house!

My friend Casi and I hosted our first garden club this morning. We discussed composting, planted a few things, harvested flowers and salsa ingredients, made flower pots and ate salsa. It was a great time, can't wait for next week!

Garden updates!!
1. I bought a gorgeous rose bush: princesse Charlene de Monaco, the smell is 🤌💋
2.I spilled a ton of turnip seeds all over, I don't even like turnips but we are mowing around giant patches of turnips 🤷‍♀️
3-4. So many things to harvest all of a sudden, why are garlic shapes so amazing?!
5. A couple of my cabbages split from the rain yesterday. So so thankful for the rain. I've been reading a book about the dust bowl...
6. There will be snapdragons soon, really wish I had labels to know which colors are which
7. Everything is already so overgrown out here, I really need wider paths but once I made paths and beds there ain't no time to re-do it. You get totally soaked walking through the garden on a dewy morning.

The tulip harvest has begun!

Tulips are tricky for me because they all want to bloom at once but luckily if you pull them up with the bulb on while the bloom is still closed they can be stored in your cooler for up to a month!

I'm saving these up for some Easter deliveries and an event coming at the end of the month.

It never fails, no matter what I'll wish I had planted more.

Predicting when spring bulbs will bloom is not something I am good at but I'm at least happy to see that the tulips are alive and growing. I expect them to bloom in the middle of April, but we shall see! Maybe I'll share some tulip pics to tie (tide? tied?) us over.

Probably... no definitely the best flower you can grow for drying is strawflower. Im really excited to try more colors this season. I've always done silvery-rose which ranges all the way from white to magenta. This season I'll be adding in some deep purple reds and apricots. They like a cool start so they will be among the first group of seeds I start.

Looks like we're having salad for dinner tonight! The really cold temps are on their way so I'm not sure this bed of greens will hold out much longer.

We are on day 4 of passing the flu through the house. I was going stir crazy today now that I'm feeling better. Getting outside to plant some more bulbs was just the right medicine. Hopefully there will be a pretty little patch of crocus to greet me out my back door in the early spring.

Now that the garden is dead we can spend winter reminiscing on last season and planning for next. I never shared photos from my friend Julianne's wedding over the summer. I'm so honored that they trusted me with their florals!

Making the kids listen to my jams while we work on seed starting

2023 was a fun year for flower farming. Here is a look back at some of my favorite parts. I have been blessed for the past 2 years, going on 3, to have been a part of the @missouriflowerexchange allowing me to join in the local effort to supply flowers to as many area florists as possible. One night our church congregation got together and made bouquets and then went out into the community to spread kindness and smiles. That was a blast to facilitate! My friend Casi and I decided to help plant the love of flowers and the garden in the next generation by hosting a month of "girls in the garden" where we did all kinds of fun projects. Finally the season wouldn't have been complete without weekly deliveries to my loyal customers. Thanks to everyone that made 2023 great, looking forward to 2024!
