It is with a heavy heart to announce that Major Mel Himes, long time polka DJ from Erie, PA, passed away last night due to sepsis caused by an untreated shoulder infection. He was 66 years old......one month shy of what would have been his 67th birthday. (June 11th)

Our deepest condolences go out to his girlfriend Kristine, and his entire family. In accordance with his final wishes, he will be cremated. Please keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time.

BASKETBALL DOUBLEHEADER (12/18/22)

We have been informed of a change in the Gannon University basketball schedule for this Sunday. There will be a basketball doubleheader (1pm & 3pm ET) which will pre-empt the first 2 1/2 hours of our WERG polka block.

Game 2 is expected to end at around 5:30pm ET (barring that game going into overtime), after which Kenny Olowin’s WERG show will be joined in progress.

This is the last Sunday game of the regular season. Barring any of these teams making it into the playoffs, our polka block should be in the clear.

Due to the Gannon University Lady Knights basketball team going to the PSAC championship, the first two hours of the WERG polka block will be preempted on both 90.5FM radio & their stream at www.wergfm.com.

The WERG edition of Hot American Polkas will be joined in progress upon the conclusion of the post game show. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Kenny’s Polka Jammer show is not affected by this last minute development and will be airing LIVE from 5-7pm ET over at www.polkajammernetwork.org.
