Ahhhh, my prized snowdrops are starting to bloom even more! I probably have at least half a dozen different varieties, including my prize possession of one bulb of Fly Fishing (first photo) which is delicately dancing with the breeze. I go and visit it every single day despite how chilly it feels! 😂❄️ Can you spot the differences between Fly Fishing and Magnet?

The weather is predicted to hit the low 60s next week, which is a little nuts and I have a feeling that everything is going to start blooming pretty fast.

Black, crystal white and rose colored hellebores progressing, a crocus is opening today and the last of the Japanese willows are blooming. Today is the day that I can finally plant out my pre-sprouted ranunculus and anemones which are eager to be planted in the ground.

Took a sourdough bread making class with my teenager at Sandy’s Kitchen: Bakeshop & Classroom.

We are comfortable making all kinds of fancy breads but sourdough takes more time, science and nuance to consider. Our loaves came out pretty well and are delicious!

Still one of my favorite dahlias…something about these black flowers that captures my attention (maybe because it looks like the chocolate ganache on a cake? 😂). Didn’t realize until too late that it should be grown as a pot tuber or at least, stored in a clump with its dirt. Lessons learned, 🤞third time’s a charm.

Hart’s Bonnie…it was worth growing because it was fun to see and the red picotee is amazing but I’m not going to keep it. Yellow is just not my thing.

It’s our son’s 16th birthday so I made a red velvet cake filled with cream cheese frosting stars, topped with TJ freeze dried raspberries.

At the last minute I’m going to sprinkle raspberry pop rocks to the powdered raspberries as a surprise. The kids will go wild 😂

Hope it’s good! We’ve always had success with Sugar Geek recipes.

First simple anemone, coral bells and pincushion flower bouquet of the year….yippee!!

Sooo cold, but ran outside with the first sun I’ve seen, got lightly rained on, and look what’s ready to bloom!

I love Galanthus, aka snowdrops and keep gathering new varieties-probably up to at least 8! has a wonderful catalogue to read and dream about. Anemones and ranunculus are also slowly blooming (thankful for zone 8b), to see scattered flowers in tiny places. Even my oriental poppies have heavy buds, just waiting to crack open.

Sure wish we could send our rain and cold to southern California.

Despite all the bad news in the world, these tough flowers thrive in our cold, mostly dark days of winter. Survivors 🤍

This time of year is always incredible. Tulips, daffodils, scilla, hellebores, erythronium, and snowdrops are returning, popping out everywhere!! These first few photos are of the small Fatsia plant cutting from our old house, which was transplanted and is growing like crazy! I remove older leaves about 3x/year and love the laciness of the flowers.

The last photo is of one of my most precious bulbs-a somewhat rare snowdrop called Fly Fishing ❤️ I’m so happy it’s growing and watch it every few days. Hopefully it spreads like all the other snowdrop varieties 🤞 Yay for winter bulbs!

In case you haven’t removed hellebore foliage yet, consider this a winter reminder! When you remove last year’s leaves you’ll immediately notice buds forming and growing!

It won’t be too long before we’ll harvest hellebore flowers for selling. We will have a limited supply of black, midnight blue, crystal white, pink and white and burgundy shades. ❤️❤️
