We welcome DORA cups in the store!

Have you heard of DORA? From Downtown Evansville's website:
What is DORA?: A Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) allows patrons 21 years and older to purchase alcoholic beverages from approved alcoholic beverage permittees within the DORA and carry them outside to be consumed within the DORA boundaries.

Our point of view--We are excited for this addition to our neighborhood and have heard positive stories from other cities with DORA programs. I've seen some skepticism online about the program and we want to pass along what we have learned.

"Does this promote public intoxication?" Of course not. A bar or restaurant should not overserve a customer. If we have someone in the store who is causing an issue, we do have the right to ask them to leave. We don't think this will be an issue, though.

"Can't you already have open containers?" Liquor licenses are complicated. Downtown Evansville did not have that type of carry out license but the DORA designation allows that.

"The plastic cups are single use and that's so wasteful." They are recyclable and we will happily put your used cups in our recycling.

We have been asked by customers having private classes if they can bring in wine or other alcohol. We have not been able to offer that but now class attendees can stop at a participating restaurant or bar and grab a drink to bring to a class, whether that is an alcoholic beverage, coffee or soft drink. All drinks are now welcome but alcoholic drinks have to be in a DORA cup.

Online ordering… Ugh. Here is some real small business talk:

While it seems to be working now on my end, it is very noticeable that we have gone 3 days without any online orders, which is extremely unusual for us.

I just got an email from a customer who tried to order online and couldn’t. She asked if I could call her when the store opens in the morning so she could order flowers for a funeral. This email means the WORLD to me as a small business owner! Thanks for not giving up on us when the technology did!

Technology is frustrating. I’m a florist and plant lover, not a web designer. The issue is with our POS company (who is closed on the weekend). Am I looking to move to a new company? 100%. Can I make that change overnight? Definitely not. Do we appreciate your patience? More than you know.

Just a few days without a fully functional online ordering page is a big hit. We care about your orders though and want to help celebrate, spread joy, and show understanding through flowers and plants to your loved ones.

If you want to try and place an order, we would love that. If you can’t get through, please let us know the issues you encounter so we can try to find a temporary solution before we can make the big switch to a new POS. If you want to call us tomorrow, we’re open 10:00-2:00 or you’re welcome to leave a voicemail and we will call you as soon as we can tomorrow morning.
