Planet parade: is it dangerous? 😱
On June 3, 2024, we’ll see six planets – Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune – together in the sky. The event is called planetary alignment, or planet parade.
Throughout history, there have been various superstitions and beliefs associating planetary alignments with potential dangers or disasters:
🌊In 489, when the Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Mercury aligned, astrologers thought there would be a worldwide flood, as in the days of Noah (later, they decided that since Saturn was missing, disaster would be avoided).
🌋In 582, mankind was threatened with the total end of the world because of the planetary alignment (as we can see, it never happened).
💥In 1962, a few months after the planet parade (featuring Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn), the Cuban Missile Crisis broke out, which almost ended in a nuclear catastrophe (however, its reasons were unlikely to have anything to do with the position of the planets).
🪐And in the 1970s, British astrophysicist John Gribbin published several papers on the negative impact of planets, especially Jupiter, on the climate and magnetic field of the Earth and the Sun. The scientist predicted a great earthquake on the San Andreas Fault and other terrible cataclysms that would happen in 1982, when all the nine Solar System planets – Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto – would align.
His predictions did not come true, so he dropped his theory. However, by that time the ominous aura had already taken hold of the planetary alignments, and they’ve became associated with tsunamis, earthquakes, and other global disasters. This nonsense has been repeatedly debunked.
So, should we be afraid of planet parades? Of course, no. Planetary alignments are just cool stargazing events, which do not affect human life. Sadly, bad things just happen on their own and are very hard to predict.
