In the 1950s, women could not vote, no bodily autonomy, largely expected to work in the home and have no aspirations. She could not have her own credit card and could not own her own property.

During the same period black people faced discriminatory practices that made it difficult to vote. We did not have access to the same public bathrooms, access to the same education, investment opportunities like buying a home. The results of just a few of these discriminatory practices continue to impact the black community today. One small insight is the hair that I am wearing that grows naturally out of my scalp was seen as an ugly reflection of how God made us. Black people especially women, were encouraged to use chemicals to straighten their hair to present as "acceptable', AKA closer to whiteness.

Everything is political. Happy Halloween.

Remember to vote.

P.S. The gag is I'll be wearing this skirt next week.

Politics is everything. Here's a sneak peek at how we got 100 or so folks to the state Capitol on an issue that affects millions of people.

It's almost fall. The fangs comin' out. 🎃 And so come the fresh ideas. 🍁🍂

Pic 1: My aunt, mom, cousins, and I spent so much of our young lives in this home. Our Aunty Charlina lived in this house in Liberty City for 40+ years. She watched Days of our Lives, smoked long lucies, and never liked AC. It's all of our grandmothers and great aunts. The necklace I'm wearing is my grandmother Gloria's necklace. No one knows scripture, and what being in your word means more than my sweet grandma. The bra because me.

Pic 2: locs.

Pic 3: face card. Encouraging everyone to invest in (semi😛) professional, quirky photos once a year.

2. Why is this true 94% of the time?
3. Allergic to drama. Always been. Want no parts.
4. A business book a month. They are all amazing. Bought 3 last week. I. Have. Got. To. Stop.
5. Me in a meme. Keep it joyful. Even when it's hard. What you resists persists... or whatever my mom keeps telling me.
