Our Story
Have you ever dreamt of a quieter, more peaceful life in the country? So did we! We purchased the property in 2018 and have been making changes ever since. We always start slow when we want to do something, researching and making certain this is the right choice for us. Adding poultry and livestock has been no different. We added free range chickens in 2018 and learned just how many animals here eat chickens. Answer? Almost all of them. We still dreamed of free ranging our chickens and having delicious farm fresh eggs and knew there had to be a better way. Our solution was to add a livestock guardian dog, a Great Pyrenees. We purchased a puppy and once she matured we had no predatory chicken losses. They truly are an amazing asset and worth their weight in gold! Next, we wanted some livestock. Some animal that we could offer our pastures to and get a usable product from. Cows? Well, we don't have THAT much pasture. Goats? Adorable, but tricky to keep in their pasture. Hmmm... Maybe something a little... different. In 2019 we began researching alpacas. They are easy on our pastures, not usually escape artists, easy enough for the kids to help care for, and provide a usable product (all that soft fiber!) without having to harvest the animal. Wins all around! We found a seller and she mentored us for months. We brought our 4 girls home in April of 2020. We love having them here and are so excited about our future together!
