Woolly Adelgid is a band based in the mountains of Franklin, North Carolina. While their sound is based in Folk Rock, there are psychedelic elements and atmospheric soundscapes that seep through like medicine for the soul. Focusing on original music while keeping the spirit of improvisation alive and well. Some of the band members have been making music together since they were kids, changing and growing through each new jam. Originally named Corporate Square. Woolly Adelgid was born in 2015 out of wild and crazy improvisational jams, with rotating cast of talented friends that bought life back to their love for making music. Moving forward to create heartfelt and heart wrenching songs for a music journey.
The name Woolly Adelgid is inspired by a small insect that shares shelter in the surrounding area. Unfortunately the woolly adelgid is taking a toll on the Hemlock trees in the Appalachian and Great Smokey Mountains. All of the members are avid hikers and sportsman that care deeply about these forests that create enjoyment and food for their families. The name was chosen in hopes to bring light to this serious issue that is causing devastation to important ecosystems.
The core of Woolly Adelgid is 4 members, while there are revolving musicians that flow in and out of their recordings like old friends around a bonfire. Recording every live show and rehearsal jam, WA began releasing raw live recordings in December 2017. They keep it fresh by sharing new versions of songs and weekly jams on a daily basis via SoundCloud and bandcamp. Taking inspiration from the 60s ethos of free love and peace, all of their material is completely free. Giving out free discs at their live shows, sharing positivity and music in a community that is rampant with drug addiction and poverty. Striving to spread peace, love and music in hopes to deal with the obstacles and oppression in the world we all share.
All of the members still work day jobs and have children of their own. A hard working mailman, talented fly fishing guide/cinematographer, and two carpenters that have cooked in kitchens all over NC; these four fellows make for a darn fine rock and roll band. Living to make music, together WA write thought provoking lyrical content about the head, heart and current events. Creating stellar improvisations that have been dawned “Squidy Jams”. Woolly Adelgid will take you on a mind bending ride if you let go and take the trip.
