DANB’s spectacular Carmina Burana has continued to astonish audiences since 1981. Performed with the University of Florida Symphony Orch

estra and Concert Choir along with the Gainesville Civic Chorus and guest artists from the world of opera, Carmina takes you on a journey from Adam and Eve to Apocalypse. The Beginning: Adam and Eve fall to the serpent's temptations and discover carnality. Love and courtship followed by marriage and joyous wedding festivities. Part II: The pleasures of drinking and revelry reveal human beings as far from spiritual. Gluttons, harlots, drunks and gamblers rival each other in riotous scenes of debauchery. Here you find a roasted swan; representing the crucified Christ. Part III: The dancers portray sophisticated love cloaked by ritual - which seems only to hide real emotions. Venus and Apollo expose worship of false gods. Finale: A return to the Wheel of Life: innocence and genuine love balance Evil and the road to Armageddon.
