Santa Cardinal is Comin' to Town!

A rare red and white cardinal in it's festive colors makes an appearance in Canada. It's unusual look is caused by gynandromorphy. The bird's chromosomes didn't separate normally after fertilization causing the red and white plumage.

From A Parent:
One of my friends asked, "Why do you pay so much money for your kids to ride horses?" Well, I have a confession to make. I don't pay for my kids to ride horses. Personally, I couldn't care less about the horses.
So, if I'm not paying for them to ride, what am I paying for?
• I pay for those moments when my kids become so tired they want to quit but don't.
• I pay for those days when my kids come home from school and are "too tired" to go to the barn, but they go anyway.
• I pay for my kids to learn to be disciplined.
• I pay for my kids to learn to take care of their body.
• I pay for my kids to learn to work with others and to be good teammates.
• I pay for my kids to learn to make and accomplish goals.
• I pay for my kids to learn that it takes hours and hours and hours and hours of hard work and practice to create a champion, and that success does not happen overnight.
• I pay for the opportunity my kids have and will have to make life-long friendships.
• I pay so that my kids can be in the arena instead of in front of a screen.
I could go on but, in short, I don't pay for horse riding. I pay for the opportunities that horse riding provides my kids with to develop attributes that will serve them well throughout their lives and give them the opportunity to bless the lives of others. From what I have seen so far, I think it is a great investment!😍❤😍

I judged a show today, I had one exhibitor that gave me a reminder of where I started and why I still have horses.
Sometimes all the chores and running from work to the barn, driving to and from shows to do chores so the crew can show, makes me grumpy and clouds my perspective.
A young girl shows a Haflinger pony, clearly with some age on her.
She wasn't fancy, she was safe and not necessarily show horse broke. But she sure tried to do everything that kid asked.
The young girl, wore skinny jeans tucked into boots, a felt hat that had seen better days, and a zip up show shirt from a few years back.
That kid tried so hard and genuinely smiled every step of the way. Not a single person coached her, she was all DIY.
I found myself trying to Will her to do a pattern, that could score high enough to be in the placings.
I found myself being disappointed for her, until I realized.
She wasn't there for that.
In egg and spoon, she didn't place but I had a second to ask her if she had a good day.She smiled , while patting that mares neck she said.
All of the days with the mare were good.
As I drove home , just down the road from the show grounds. That young lady was riding her pony home.In that hat , shirt and pants tucked in her boots.Carrying her water bucket and empty hay net.She was completely content, without ribbons, fancy clothes or horse trailer. That kid is living her dream.
😍😍😍

THE TRAIN - At birth we boarded the train and met our parents, and we believe they will always travel by our side. As time goes by, other people will board the train; and they will be significant i.e. our siblings, friends, children, and even the love of your life. However, at some station our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this journey alone. Others will step down over time and leave a permanent vacuum. Some, however, will go so unnoticed that we don't realize they vacated their seats. This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells. Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers requiring that we give the best of ourselves.
The mystery to everyone is: We do not know at which station we ourselves will step down. So, we must live in the best way, love, forgive, and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life.
I wish you all a joyful journey

"I find myself sitting in the parking lot at Kroger, trying to compose myself. You see, while inside getting groceries, I came upon a little girl prancing down the aisle, making a crazy noise. I turned around to see this young lady wearing massive boots compared to her tiny body. At first, I just giggled and continued shopping. But, I ended up in the check-out lane behind her and her mother. As good southerners do, we struck up a conversation. I told the little girl I liked her boots. She had a massive grin on her face and began to speak. She let me know those boots belonged to her Daddy. Today would have been his birthday, but he was killed last year in 'Afghan Stan.' To feel better about today, she was allowed to wear his boots. As her mom started to cry, so did I, as did the cashier. Apparently, the gentleman behind me heard the story and gave the little girl a cupcake out of the dozen he was buying. He told the little girl to always eat a cupcake for her dad's birthday. He told her that her dad was a hero and she should be proud to be his daughter. Please remember why we are able to celebrate America. Let's stop to think about those who protect the freedom we often take for granted!"
