SUCCESS STORY | Activist Opal Lee, 96, is known as the Grandmother of .

(What is Juneteenth? On June 19, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Texas were told they were free. A century & a half later, African Americans continue to celebrate Juneteenth, also called and .)

After a four-decade fight by Opal, including multiple walking campaigns and obtaining 1.5 million signatures on a petition to Congress, Juneteenth was made a federal holiday in 2021. She stood beside President Biden as he signed it into law.

Got to work on an event with Charleston Promise Neighborhood 👧🏽, had Columbia Black Expo South, worked the Choir Showcase 🎶on Mother’s Day, produced a styled shoot (stay tuned!), was the day of planner for The Green Heart Project Harvest Dinner💚and ended the month with my newest clients (more like family now) Explore Charleston ICEP program!!

The 2023 Charleston Black Expo Weekend was one for the books!! We Kicked Off Thursday with a recognition of the sponsors and partners that help us make the weekend possible 🏆 , Celebrated the culinary genius in the African American culture with Taste of Black Charleston at IAAM!! 🍴Y’all! There was vegan Oxtails!! 🤤We gathered as a community Saturday for the Expo where we shopped 🛍️black own vendors, 🤩chatted and sang with celebs, attended meaningful seminars 📖and so much more!! Then…TTM Enterprise closed is out with the Official Black Expo Social!!! 💃🏽

I am so humbled and don’t take for granted the opportunity to represent the Lowcountry on the Black Expo South team!!
