Midlothian area!!!! Exciting news! We’re partnering with The rosie orchard to offer two amazing sewing classes on September 21st! Whether you’re a young designer (ages 10-16) or an adult looking to enhance your skills (ages 17+), this is more than just Sewing 101. 🌟

In these comprehensive sessions, you’ll dive into sewing and fashion design basics, creating your own tote (youth) or apron (adults). Plus, this beginner class qualifies you for advanced courses in the future! All materials provided! You will also receive a mini sewing kit and a TSC Designers Guide. Use our machines or you can bring your own. Don’t miss out—register now!

Our student have elected tailoring basics and a class on adding buttons with the machine to finish up our sessions! Did you know that our Library classes are free to the public. Super excited to be starting classes with DFW Fabric Mart, Inc. -Petra's Fabrics. Our first class is this knotty messenger bag that I patterned out. This class will not be taught at a library.
For this class you will:
-be supplied ALL materials for sewing, including being able to select your fabric from an assorted array of gingham print colors in the store
-receive the bag pattern you can take home to duplicate
-have hands on instructional from Chelita
-be supplied with a machine with the option to bring your own.
-meet other sewers and have fun!

Thank you to the desoto arts comission for allowing me to be a resident artist and put on these amazing events and workshops. Your support is imperative! Thank you to the youth team at DeSoto Public Library, DeSoto, Texas DeSoto Police Department DeSoto Fire Rescue, desoto teens and master Sargent for coming through to our Fashion and Function Fashion show. It was an awesome turnout and the kids had a blast interacting and learning about how clothes are not just about glam but serves a purpose! My goal is to educate the youth on all sides of fashion. Fashion is STEM! Did you know there are material scientists who create materials that are suitable to do different things? Ex making fabrics water resistant, heat resistant, or even bullet proof! Did you know that there are fashion designer positions at NASA to help to make blankets to cover satellites to control temperature! There so many fascinating aspects of design and I hope I can throw this event for years. You will continue to see many new fun fashion workshops and events like this. Science was my favorite topic in school and I love that I can combine the 2! Check out why chef hats are so tall. I learned so much right along with the youth!

@stphilips1600 if we shenan once, guarantee we gonna shenan-again! My students really didn’t want to be seen today but look at how cute their pot holders are!

I had to test these out today! It was so easy and fun. As I created I got the question of how do you wash them. Here’s a few options below 1) dont 😂 2) hand wash or general wash In a mesh bag for the washer (not tested) but I will for research sake 3) create removable flowers! Next round I’ll be challenging myself to create florals that can be easily removed/replaced for wash or interchangeability. Date for meetup will be released within the week! Tomorrow I will be taking a much needed break so see you later designers!

Fashion is Art, and it tells our stories! I was blessed with the opportunity to create a display at Desoto city hall that will be up through the end of July. This exhibit celebrates Fashion in Africa and of the diaspora! Stop by anytime to see the work and keep June 28th in your calendar for a special soft launch event of the exhibit and come to taste food from our many cultures and experience the reveal of a final piece. Thank you @cityofdesoto and the Desoto Artist lab for having me this year and allowing me to showcase fashion in different ways! I’m enjoying creating from a place of passion and freedom! This look was to celebrate carnival in the Caribbean. Beside each piece I have some history and context so please come also learn a bit of history. Bring your youth and any fashion enthusiast. The more we know the more we grow! We will realize how much we have in common and we are better together! Here’s a little behind the scenes of the process. I truly enjoyed every bit!
