Yesterday Suzzy finally married her husband in front of their closet friends and family so it's appropriate now to share these stunning portraits of her! Kelly and I have been so eager to share these since October and hope you enjoy the images as much as enjoyed creating them. Congratulations to you and your new husband, Suzzy! Wishing you a lifetime of love and joy.

Spring flowers are everywhere right now from the wholesale cooler to our sprouting garden! Until our first wedding gets here at the beginning of June I'm delighting in some fresh blooms in our home with my favorite vases from our event inventory.

May this inspire you to fill your space with spring, too!

Our table will only be set for our four immediate family members this Christmas, but it's going to be beautiful and meaningful regardless. This week I'm sharing the details behind our tablescape, including heirloom monogrammed napkins from Oatmeal Lace Design, our upgraded china from Pottery Barn, and a few other special ouches.

What are your holiday dinner plans? I'd love to know!

Holidays aside, we are very excited about the incredible 2021 weddings already on our roster. After a long hiatus of events this past summer, a little floral design and a LOT of celebration sounds really nice. Until next wedding season!

We've had the pleasure of executing a few special events in Saugatuck over the years (Hi Megan and Graham! Hi Steph and Paul!) but nothing beats the fun personal time we have there as a family. Oval Beach is a truly magical Michigan gem and a day there with both a personal friend and industry colleague takes the cake.

Enjoy some highlights from our summer adventure in Saugatuck with the Vandersons, a trip we hope to make a yearly tradition!

For the 2020 holiday season, Mimi from The Tiny Tassel and I have partnered together to bring you a colorful, Charleston-inspired, ready to gift box! Included in the box is a pair of Mimi’s handmade Crabb earrings in exclusive colors and a two-two artisan bar of soap with a handmade cedar wood dish.

Our hope is these boxes not only highlight our respective small, women-owned businesses, but they bring you and your gift recipients great ‘comfort & joy’ this holiday. Boxes will retail for $50.00 each and there will be a limited quantity available both in my shop and Mimi’s on December 1st when we launch our seasonal products.

Finally (and I’m so excited to share these!) you can visit the blog today to see photos from our trip to Rainbow Row in September. Sirena of Aneris Photography is a whiz and we greatly enjoyed our time with her. The countdown is on!

I'm a pretty big celebration enthusiast but nothing brings me greater joy than celebrating our kids' birthdays! Our youngest son just turned two years old so we threw a party for our close family and friends, featuring Ev's favorite pig, Peppa! If you want to take a peek into the party and catch my commentary, I've blogged some photos from Samantha James Photography. Enjoy the post and happy partying!

Global pandemic or not, I've been executing virtual mockups with clients for years, thanks to what's always been an incredible roster of clients and vendors that live out of state and country.

I believe this diverse group of clients, and both their and our willingness to do new things helped build a mindset of entrepreneurial flexibility (and a hunger for a good challenge!) that otherwise wouldn't have been cultivated.

This photo from Samantha James Photography is from our most recent virtual mock up earlier this year before our social reality really shifted. With our awesome clients in Hawaii, our incredible planning team with Valerie Gernhauser and Sapphire Events in NOLA, and many suppliers and vendors scattered around the country, we worked together to ship and source and design an exceptional virtual mock up just mere months before the wedding day.

While the wedding was impacted by Covid and rescheduled to spring of 2022, this virtual mock up serves an exceptional reminder that we have a solid blueprint for the wedding day when it does get to happen and clients who trust our vision because there's professional and beautiful photographic evidence of it.

Whether you're looking for a different type of opportunity to connect, way to streamline decisions, ideas to showcase your proposed designs, or just want to add in some unexpected delights, my advice is to get creative and be willing to adjust your approach. Right now, and perhaps for the foreseeable future, we might just need to consider new ways of running our businesses, and ultimately meeting the needs of our clients.

Enjoy the blog post I wrote this week that talks more about the logistics of virtual mock ups. I hope it's helpful for any wedding and event vendors needing inspiration on what they can do differently to accommodate this current season better.

AND THE RBC SHOP IS LIVE!

The soap shop has temporarily switched over to house my bouquet designing resource for the next month. It's a fresh change of pace to go hand in hand with a new season!

But this resource! Let me share a bit with you:

In my first few seasons as a floral designer, my constant pain point was creating bouquets that looked as beautiful as the ones gracing the cover of magazines, but perhaps more importantly, that were in my imagination and heart where all of my best creations are born.

The way I wanted my bouquets to aesthetically look was clear but the tangible steps to get to this desired end goal - steps that included finding reputable wholesalers, ordering product, pricing my work, building the bouquet, transporting the bouquet, wrapping it, and then having it photographed professionally, phew! - felt impossibly overwhelming and top secret.

I’d come across photos of bouquets that made me really feel something, and I knew I wanted my work to also elicit those same feelings; for me, my clients, and ultimately the hundreds of people that would enjoy the beauty of these very creations at weddings and then afterwards in photographs once the bouquet was long gone. I firmly believe that a bouquet is one of the most nostalgic parts of a bride’s look and chances are you do too if you’re reading this. But beyond this, I want to help you build bouquets that you and your clients really, really love.

So this guide was created out of a desire to make the floral industry a stronger place, where design secrets aren’t so secretive anymore. It’s for the beginner florist who feels overwhelmed by the subjective nature of floral designing. It’s for the wedding planner looking to grasp the ins and outs of bouquet design to better serve clients having micro weddings or elopements. It’s for the floral designer who wants to take their designs to the next level, which in turn will elevate their business and increase profits.

Learn more via the shop and get yours TODAY while box supplies last. All customers who purchase in the next 24 hours get free access to a November group zoom call to dive deeper into bouquet concepts beyond the content.

This past Saturday, the final event of my wedding planning career unfolded and it was a perfect day to mark the end of a beautiful chapter. Steph and Paul's regular wedding - the one we had been planning for close to two years now - had to be cancelled because of Covid-19. But their love was most certainly not cancelled so we got to work diving into a plan for a different kind of wedding, one I hope to see more of as I cheer on my colleagues and friends navigating a new terrain in our industry.

Intimate, joyful, intentional, and beautiful.

These are the event attributes I've always loved most about weddings, and in a serendipitous way, the very pillars last weekend was built on for our couple. I expected to feel very sad when I woke up Sunday morning but instead felt nothing but grateful. Steph and Paul, thank you for sharing your love with us, for trusting us with this special milestone in your life, and for being truly so gracious, laid back, and flexible as curveball after curveball was tossed your way. I know June 13th will forever be a memory for you both, but it will always be one for me too.

Enjoy this short and sweet video edit from Rebecca Dexter Visuals and a photo from Giving Tree Photography which show just a little peek into the magic that happened. I look forward to sharing more when the time is right.

Even though it feels like a lot of the world is on hold right now, there are still weddings to plan and bridal bouquets to dream about! My bouquet work was recently featured on the Kleinfeld Bridal blog as an extension to our editorial last fall at Sea Island Resorts and it's part of a round up full of floral-specific tips and suggestions for brides to be. Our friend Anna Breeding nailed the beauty while Allan Zepeda Photography did a phenomenal job with the photos. Take a peek at all the gorgeous inspiration!

03/23/2020

To the parents paying for childcare tuition(s) even though they are keeping their kids home to fight this for good; I see you. Try and think of your monies as being the livelihood for the teachers that still report to work to be with the children of the doctors and nurses fighting this thing, and the children of the men and women stocking our pharmacies, grocery stores, and gas stations.

To those who do not work in places essential to society's survival right now, but are still expected to physically come into work, I share your frustration. I'm the spouse of a man at work today. Try and think of the business owners making what seems like selfish decisions and understand they may be operating from a place that craves normalcy. The may be clinging to what little security is left.

To those who see endless social media posts about how hard this has been, but know someone who is in critical condition or has passed away due to the virus, I am so sorry for your loss. Being stuck inside, missing date nights, a lack of routine and free time, all greatly pale in comparison to the ultimate consequence of what's happening and may we all be sensitive to those who have lost loved ones.

To those who can't go to work and aren't getting a pay check anymore, for those who are losing inventory and have to lay off employees, for helpless kids who are abused at home and school is their safe place, for households with children who have compromised health, or where an elderly person is under the same roof, this sucks. We have to recognize this is so far from ideal for absolutely everyone.

And to everyone doing their best to go about a new routine that balances work-demands with personal ones, I hope my words give you even the smallest sense of camaraderie. Truly, if you can stay in your home, do it guys. Skip take out for dinner even if your order is supporting a local business (buy a gift card instead), skip the urge to visit the hardware store to finish a home project (purge the closet instead), skip a play date with the neighbors even if you're outside and that feels 'safe'. This too shall pass but ONLY if we all stick together.

We hope the flowers that were supposed to be used in New Orleans yesterday for our client's wedding (which is now thankfully postponed for October) brought joy to many hard working staff and sick patients at our local hospital. More than 40 women and men across the country helped make this possible by sponsoring each flower arrangement!

Thank you Rhiannon Bosse Celebrations for bringing flower arrangements to brighten the day of so many nurses!

03/17/2020

Last week I was in North Carolina at The School of Styling designing florals for a beautiful three day workshop, and this week instead of boarding a flight with Betsi to NOLA in the morning, I'm at home reminding a sweet little four-year-old to wash his hands every ten minutes (thank goodness I also run a soap company, am I right?)

With the change in our wedding season schedule, and likely the many changes in your personal and professional life too, I'm choosing to look at the global health crisis as a chance to practice gratitude, the joy of home, and the sheer fact that we get to rock out our wedding season through to October while sharing more beauty with you along the way.

Stay safe everyone and chin up; we will prevail!

Our editorial partnership with Kleinfeld Bridal was a highlight of 2019. The campaign has been live for a couple months but I'm finally sharing my favorite images, plus many behind the scenes images on the blog. Allan Zepeda Photography is a gem and Betsi and I will always treasure this opportunity.

P.S. How long do you think the tree installation took us?!

A fresh new website, new blog design, new online soap shop, and of course, a new decade; it's February (almost March!) but I am still riding on that all-things-new high! Join me over on the blog today as a recap one of our 2019 weddings at Bieker Farms. This was a delightful event with thousands of flower stems, the loveliest private property, a darling couple, and no weather pattern too strong for us to overcome. Enjoy!
