I have been a proud resident of Hampton Falls for 50 years, and my love for flowers was born from growing up on an Arabian horse farm on Drinkwater Road. My parents were true homesteaders—my father a hunter and fisherman, my mother a gifted gardener, baker and cook. Our freezer was always stocked with stews, casseroles, fish and game, and every morning, we gathered fresh eggs from our 72 Rhode Island Reds. Our farm was alive with horses, chickens, geese, dogs, cats, and even a goat for good measure.
And the gardens—the gardens were everything! A trellised wisteria framed the front porch, while lilac, honeysuckle, quince, and dogwood filled the air with their scent. Our 100-foot vegetable garden overflowed with everything from peas to watermelons, and inside the farmhouse, a dedicated jarring and canning room ensured nothing went to waste. My mother’s award-winning pies were made with fruit from Applecrest, and our milk was delivered twice a week from Laurel Farms.
From an early age, I found myself drawn to flowers. I would get lost in the gardens, carefully selecting blossoms to preserve in shadow boxes with my mom. I spent hours collecting pinecones to craft holiday wreaths. I once thought I would be a doctor first and, later in life, own a flower shop. Well—part of that came true.
When I had my first child, my dream of owning a flower business became a necessity, and so Drinkwater Flowers was born. Now, 23 years later, we are just two years away from celebrating a quarter of a century in business. I will turn 60, having dedicated much of my life and many sacrifices to this work, and I hope to mark the occasion with a big celebration.🎉
But more than anything, I am grateful for the deep connection to my community. Running a small business is all-consuming, and it can take a toll on staying connected with friends. Yet, over the years, I have had the profound honor of being part of your most cherished moments—from prom wristlets to graduation bouquets, wedding arrangements, and life celebrations. It fills my heart daily, and I feel blessed to do what I believe God put me here to do: be an emotional first responder, using my love of flowers to bring joy and comfort to our little corner of the world—Hampton Falls, and the surrounding towns of the Seacoast of New Hampshire.
Thank you for supporting small businesses. When you choose to shop local, you’re not just buying flowers—you’re helping keep a dream alive.🫶✨
