A video from last night’s tasting event...
JCB Lounge Yountville
On March 3, 2018 we reserved a tasting at the JCB lounge in Yountville. Neither this video, or the pictures come close to saying how great a time we had.
A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!!!
Only one word to describe the once in a lifetime experience of last night’s tasting with friends. It truly was an evening to remember...
So, we shared the 1955 Taylor Fladgate Vintage port with a group of friends and wine shop owners. Let me try to coalesce the tasting notes I got from this.
Sight - brick colored with a gold and pink tint to it. Much more transparent than I expected from other Classic Vintages I had previously tasted. It poured from the decanter with great viscosity to the eye.
Sniff - beach roses on the nose followed by berry, stone fruits, toffee, treacle, to a almost citrusy quality
Swirl - Everything smoothed into a tapestry of multi-textured flavors to the nose.
Taste (savor) - Oh the mouthfeel of this is amazing. Like a quality and well-loved blanket it cozily enters your mouth. Once hitting your tongue it seamlessly moves through the whole of the mouth to hit all taste receptors. There is still liveliness to this 63 year old wine. Great acid to pair with foods keeps it interesting. There is no raisiny quality to this, just ripe fruits, honey, nuts.
Finish - The roses come back without even doing retro nasal effect. This is long long long on the finish.
3 ounces is something to savor for over 30 minutes. Do not rush this. The glazed pecans were wonderful with this. The Saint Agur blue cheese also was a winner. Our friends, Ken and Susie Pope brought some artisanal chocolates and they were impeccable. The chocolate port barrel with cherry in it accentuated the cherry in the port.
All in all this was indeed a "once in a lifetime" port. The 1955 Classic Vintage Port from Taylor Fladgate could well be one of the best wines I have ever had. It was definitely the oldest one I have ever had.
Thank you to Monica Kirk for sharing with all eight of us in connecting with 1955, the people in Portugal, the winemaker, the vintners, the vine dressers, the winery workers. This was a night to remember.
The beginning of a fun evening!
What a Summer Day
Exciting man great wine ambassador. We get to work with him.
Great way to open Champagne
Sabre a Grand Cru Champagne for Saturday lunch. Oh yeah...the Hawaiian shirt helped
What a fantastic time at Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma today. We represent these fine people and see their wines. It is tremendous to see what Jean Charles Boisset and the Boisset Collection have done to rehabilitate and revive this the first fine wine winery in California.
