To the members of the Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club: I do have African violet plants for you to use as part of the Grow Along Project. A very limited number is available, so I ask you buy a plant only if you hope/intend to participate in the project. One plant per member. $9 each. The size and age of the plants vary... These are plants I ordered for myself, for 9 to 12 dollars each. They are strong and healthy... some are young/smaller... others are a little older/larger. Please send me a PM or a phone call (John and Debbie Stout, Harlem in the phone book). I will be delivering to Malta on this Friday, June 11th.

Here is the a simple outline of the complete 4 month Project! As we progress week by week, I will add a reminder for any tasks schedule for that week! In the next 4 days while we are to be 'PREPARING Our Plant', I will add several links to good articles written by experienced growers using these methods. 🙂 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CF5qfLNBui7W3u0L3atccQlh27s6Ukiq/view?usp=sharing

Re-potting an African violet is the first step to 'Jump-Starting' a young plant, or 'Rejuvenating' an older plant!
Here are a few great articles and videos to help both hesitant beginners and experienced collectors. There is always something new to learn from others. I will add links to the videos in the comments below.

Many of us know someone who is a magician with plants. Everything seems to thrive in that person’s care. The difference between a magic green thumb and a hapless brown thumb is often found in the subtle techniques of repotting. That’s especially true with African violets. Sick violets often reco...

I am preparing African violet plants to be part of a talk to a local garden club Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club in October. I will demonstrate how a few little 'tweaks' to the traditional method of 'houseplant' growing can dramatically change the way a violet performs. A few of my plants will be grown under the traditional care of the average houseplant. Other plants will be grown by methods that are specific for African violets. I will be posting photos and updates of the plants over the summer, from June 1 to the October club meeting. I will also be posting my care and grooming schedule. MY QUESTION: do any of you want to 'grow-along' with a plant of your own? All you need to begin is an African violet plant, and it can be one you already grow, even an older, over grown violet that needs repotting or rejuvenating. The schedule tasks are simple and take about 10 minutes or less each week, after the beginning repotting and grooming. You can use your own soil and fertilizer, or follow my recommendations, whichever you prefer. Of course, I can predict the results if you follow the 3+ month schedule with my recommendations! I am not selling any plants, soil or supplies. DEADLINE to begin the Grow-Along Project is June 13. The sooner the better!

How to Repot a Long Neck and Also Cure Root Rot

This is a very short, clearly demonstrated video on what to do if your African violet has grown up out of the pot, until it looks more like a palm tree than a houseplant!
The solution is easy, and Joyce Stork clearly explains each step as she takes an actual plant from doomed to 'fixed'!

Joyce Stork demonstrates repotting a neglected African violet. (She sometimes refers to viewers/growers as "nerds" - this video was originally posted on the ...
