Join us on the front lines Friday, July 19 from 5:30-8:30pm at Scott’s Orchard. We’ll hitch a wagon ride through the peaches. At the pavilion, we’ll enjoy appetizers and drinks while designing a market bouquet and vase arrangement. You’ll receive hands-on instruction, vase life tips and harvesting techniques, along with your masterpiece to take home.

Gardens in the shade! Some of our most popular sale items include plants made for the shade. We have Lenten roses still blooming although Lent is over. That’s almost two months of bloom time! They are white cream, and mixed with pink/white blooms. Besides extra long bloom time, Lenten roses (Hellebores) stay green all winter and keep the garden structure together.
Another shade living plant is ajuga. Instead of evergreen, this variety remains a burgundy color and is a ground cover. I love having something colorful in the winter instead of bare ground. Ajuga is currently blooming with purple spikes, making you a believer that spring has sprung.
Everyone loves hostas. We have the variegated ones which are perennial and last until Nov without much care. It’s always nice to have a dependable plant that is tried and true.
Since we’re a flower farm, we don’t have much shade. Therefore we make really good deals on these otherwise pricey plants. Nothing is over $10, and this includes Lenten roses! Sale in Hazel Green at the corner of Elkwood Section Rd and Hills Chapel Rd. April 11-12.

I get by with a little help from my friends! They loved sifting soil for seed sowing.
We recently switched from plastic seed trays to soil blocks for starting seeds. We can now fit 80 seeds on an 8x10 tray. This saves us lots of shelf and grow light space. Those grow lights are not cheap. Neither are the shelves!
Instead of seed starter mix or peat moss as the main medium, we use Coco-Loco soil brand. We searched and finally found it at The Catbird Seat in Madison and at a great price. It is a peat-less mix so I can feel good about its sustainability, plus it doesn’t dry out as fast as peat moss. Less watering for us and helped save another peat bog around the world. Win-win.
