Bay 3 IS BACK OPEN!
Luckily, my awesome work crew was free today.
If the incident we had last Saturday originated from Bay 3 (as I suspect), then that danger gap has been thoroughly closed.
2 rows of tires filled with sand plus a whole bunch of clay dirt in between the rows should do the trick.
Eventually we'll have all these berms covered, but this should more than suffice for now.
(And if anyone wants to see the berm being built, these pictures are in reverse order from completion to starting out.)

VTAC Barricades!
Commissioned 8 VTAC barricades to be made and they're all now distributed amongst the bays.
Really do want this place to offer y'all the shooting experience you crave.
So hope y'all enjoy them well.
Please pick them up, don't drag them, when moving them.
And do your best to shoot through the slots and not accidentally make them wider.
Oh, and I hope it goes with saying further that they're NOT for mounting targets on or otherwise shooting deliberately.
These were labor intensive and this expensive to have made, so please keep them in good shape for all the members.
Also, if anyone wants to paint these or any of tbe other wooden range props, be my guest.

Bay 3 is temporarily closed!
It pains me to do this, as it's probably our most popular bay.
But we had sn incident on April 11th where someone's shot appears to have escaped the IZ and gone through the back of a car on my neighbor's property..
As far as I can tell, Bay 3 looks to be the problem.
Fortunately, if I am right, the solution should be fairly straightforward.
There should be work crews fixing it this week.
But until then:
DO NOT USE Bay 3!
It is OUT OF BOUNDS!
Anyone who'd like to direct message me to offer assistance, I will be more than happy to accept it if I can use

Several of the range's Bianchi barricades have been modified / upgraded.
When I bought the Impactzone, all these barricades were on all steel frames and at various levels of being shot up; with several at the level of tetanus-laced cheese graters.
By only keeping the steel bases and using 2x2" wood for the frames they'll be easier to move around and easier to repair (when they're inevitably shot on accident).
Already placed these 5 in some of the more popular bays.
However, unfortunately I have to add a note that for most of y'all will seem intuitive.
The Bianchi barricades, like the other barricades. barrels, railroad ties, and other range props, are NOT for mounting targets on or deliberately shooting at.
You shoot around them at proper targets.
I have even written that such notice on them, since this sort of reminder seems all too necessary.
If you see any members doing stuff that might damage these or other range props, please kindly let them know that's not ok.
Thanks kindly to for the idea to upgrade the barricades in this fashion.

A whole lot of classes hitting the Impactzone Gun Club this April!
Saturday, April 5, Defiance Tactical Shooting will be in Bay 6 8am to Noon.
Sunday, April 6, Defiance Tactical Shooting will be in Bay 6 8am to 4pm.
Wednesday, April 16, Defiance Tactical Shooting in Bay 6 from 8am to 2pm.
Friday, April 18th, Defiance Tactical Shooting will be in Bay 5 from 8am to 2pm.
Saturday, April 26th we have 2 classes going on:
—Todd Springer with Citizen Defense Fi****ms Training will be teaching Defensive Handgun Applications in Bay 8 from 9am to 2pm.
— Defiance Tactical Shooting will be in Bay 5 from 8am to Noon.

Bays 1 and 7 were upgraded this week.
Both are noticeably higher, so much so that I'm sure everyone will be itching to see the entire range get upgraded to this level.
This spring we'll also be upgrading the main backstops for Bays 8 and 9.
Bay 10's berm is in such an unacceptably eroded state;
plus any live fire heads straight at folks shooting at the 100 yard line of the Long Range bay.
Thus, it'll be turned into a non-live fire force-on-force area.
(More on that as upgrades are made.)
Closing Bay 10 to live fire will be a kick in the pants to get that bay left of Bay 1 (which I currently call Bay Zero) up to s***f.
That will likely be in the fall after member dues start to renew, as it must be high enough that my neighbors feel safe.
(Or just send a lot of new members my way to fund

It's been right about a year since The Impactzone lost its founder, Phil Oxley.
Phil built a one of a kind range for competition and tactical shooters.
The kind of range that those of us skilled in the use of fi****ms craved to be able to shoot and hone our skills at.
A place where I, like many others, had some of the best memories of my life.
Upon news of Phil's death, a lot of folks (including myself), were in shock.
Not only had someone really cool left our lives; but his legacy of building The Impactzone and all it did for the shooting community might vanish into nothing but the past tense.
Now the place looks different from a year ago. That's for certain
But it's my sincere hope under my stewardship that The Impactzone continues to be cherished by the Houston shooting community and serves their needs at least as well as it did under Phil.
Even though I do some things quite differently, I truly hope he's looking down on us and is well pleased with how the range is continuing.
I extend my sincerest gratitude to Phil for creating this shooting range so that we all can train snd compete better, in the way we want, and grow as shooters because of it.
Thank you Phil for all the good you did for so many of us.

Status update: getting more target stands and racks out on the range.
Over the past couple months we've been addressing the issue of target stands and racks.
Lots of new target stands have been added recently (the ones made out of rebar).
Also, of the target stands that came with the range, close to a third were unservisable due to being shot or otherwise dented.
Many of them have been drilled out or fixed as needed, though this is still a work in progress.
Target stand racks have been added to Bays 1 and 2, and there are plans for more in the future.
Target sticks are starting to be added to bays that are exhausting their fresh sticks as well.
Hopefully this makes it so y'all are always able to have enough stands and sticks on hand when y'all need it.
Please help me out with this by shooting straight and putting everything back in its proper place when you're done with it.

Bays 3 and 2 now also have their backstops upgraded!
We should have all the horseshoe bays upgraded soon.
Just working out some technical issues and scheduling.
I realize Bay 3 looks a little lopsided in tire stacks.
Due to the slope of the ground and the lowness of that berm, that was one of the most worrisome spots for stray rounds escaping onto my neighbors' properties. Hence the extra double making sure.
Really appreciate y'all's patience on the upgrades.
Definitely want to make this place both a cool place to shoot and a safe place to shoot.
Glad all my outstanding members are along for the ride

Just some shooting class / bay reservation announcements for the upcoming weeks.
Bay 5 will be reserved for a private class from 9am to 1pm on:
Thursday, March 6th
Friday, March 7th
Sunday, March 9th
And
Monday, March 10th
All classes will be conducted by Defiance Tactical Shooting.

Work on the Berms continues....
Got Bays 6, 5, and 4 all completed for now.
Bay 3 is about a fifth done.
Work will resume middle of next week.
Appreciate y'all's cooperation and understanding during the times we have to shut a bay down to make it safer.

Quick announcement:
I've decided to create a Lost & Found Box for the range.
Every once in a while I discover a member left something behind that's clearly not trash and that they might want back.
Before, I just left it where I found it in hopes they'd come back and find it there waiting.
But that meant leaving it out exposed in the elements.
So now if you discover you left something precious behind, text or direct message me an inquiry with a specific enough description (brand, size, color, or anything that helps me know for sure it's yours.)
If I have it, I will set it aside for when you can come to the range and retrieve it.

Berms are being upgraded over the next few weeks.
Getting those backstops up to a safer height!
This does mean a bay might be shut down during the weekdays, so don't be surprised.
It was necessary to make this happen sooner than later, as my neighbor was reporting bullets zipping over his staff's head!
This is also a not so subtle reminder to all members to make 100 percent your shots impact the backstop!
Even when the berms are higher.
Y'all need to be extra careful when kneeling or lower, especially on higher targets (like head shots).
Mount your targets low if necessary.
It's important that no one gets hurt here than anything else.
