The Tuesday, December 2, meeting of the Hillsboro Lions Club featured an update on the Boys and Girls Club of Hill County program.
Justin Derington, CEO of the Club, gave an update on programs that are being offered, shared the number of kids and impact the Club is making on Hillsboro, and invited the members to come and see the facility. As someone who grew up in the area, Derington shared how having an organization like this for students to attend would have been so beneficial to him and his friends and that he hopes his work is positively impacting the lives of the next generation of Hillsboro.
The Boys and Girls Club recently held one of their annual fundraisers, Breakfast of Champions, featuring Jamie Blanek, former Miss Waco, who shared her story: On the evening of February 6, 2021, in Waco, Texas, Jamie was the first to arrive at a horrible accident scene; a jeep had crashed and rolled over several times. Unfortunately, while helping, Jamie would be hit as well. She suffered a traumatic amputation of her right leg above the knee and was life-flighted to a level 1 trauma hospital. Her injuries were extensive. Jamie summoned her faith, courage, and conviction to live a purpose driven life. Her unique life story is a powerful source of hope. She is an advocate for change, and she fearlessly lives life to show others they, too, can defy that which seems impossible.
The Hillsboro Lions Club presented a check to the Boys and Girls Club of Hill County and support the efforts they're making towards the area.
The Hillsboro Lions Club meets every Tuesday at 12 noon at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Hillsboro.
