Annnnnnd...it's STILL tulip season around here. Holy smokes, we still have a variety that HASN'T BLOOMED. this go down as the very longest tulip season ever! Which means, my flower friends, that I will be dragging myself with buckets upon buckets to the tomorrow! I may be kinda jetlagged and haggard, but these beauties are too beautiful not to share!

Hello Stems Family and Friends - It’s been a minute! It’s 9PM on New Year’s Eve in Homer. The girls are in bed after watching a fantastic fireworks display from the comfort of our deck. Definitely not as grand as being there in person, but a lot simpler. And I’m going to be honest, we kind o...

Happy fall, all! Family and I got home yesterday afternoon from a really wonderful 10-day trip to Maine. We got to spend some wonderful time with family and friends, and we look forward to making it an annual sojourn. Coming home, it's clearly solidly fall. I'm welcoming the change of tone in the landscape around us, beginning to be dominated by browns, yellows, reds. The farm is still slowly moving along, and still we don't have enough flowers to meet our weekly subscriptions plus the farmers market. 2023 has been the most challenging growing year of my 11-year farming life. Huge massive thanks, appreciation, and respect for Madra and all the work she's done here this season and continues to do! And to Scott for all of his top notch horse care in our absence! So I guess this is largely an appreciation post for Alaska, for Homer, for Madre and Scott, and for our community. It's good to be home. And while we miss the abundance of blooms from previous years, I still can't help but look around and be proud of what has grown!

A small hit of blue sky, in an otherwise very cloudy and cool summer. And wet, did I mention wet? It's been such a bummer to go through every day pretty much just saying no to people, we just haven't had the flowers to sell yet. This week we're going to eek through a farmer's market (I'd come early if you want flowers!), and we're on week two of our subscriptions. We've been able to meet our weekly clients for the last 2 weeks. It's not a July like I've seen before in my 11 years of flower farming here, but hey, we still live in a pretty beautiful place and I sure am glad it's not excessively hot nor humid. I know we aren't the only ones dealing with unfavorable weather, and honestly we probably have the best deal of it all.... You can always add more layers, but you can only take so much off when it's too hot. Neither extreme is real good for growing plants, however! At any rate, this is mostly a post of appreciation for all of you farmers out there, and all of you patient and kind flower lovers!!

We have SUCH a great tulip team this year!! Madra, River, and Jen are killing it with these awesome blooms. We're keeping SaveUMore stocked in Homer, Anchorage can pick up bunches at New Sagaya/City Market, vase deliveries are going out on the daily (but not Sundays!), we're nearing the third week of our tulip subscription, and people are stopping by to grab bunches straight from the farm. It's a fully chaotic, and incredibly vibrant and wonderful, time of the year!

Tulip drop with New Sagaya & City Market in Anchorage!
Tulips are our only flowers that leave the Kenai Peninsula, and only for an incredibly short window. The turn & burn drive up is a little brutal, but it's so worth it 🌷

A lifetime isn’t long enough for the beauty of this world
and the responsibilities of your life.

Scatter your flowers over the graves, and walk away.
Be good-natured and untidy in your exuberance.

In the glare of your mind, be modest.
And beholden to what is tactile, and thrilling.
