About The Old Church
The House with the Purple Door
Located in the heart of Horton, Michigan, The Old Church is more than a historic building; it is a spiritual harbor for the modern age. We stand at the intersection of ancient wisdom and contemporary reality—a "Third Space" where the noise of the world fades, and authentic connection begins. Whether you identify as a Witch, a Christian, a Skeptic
, or simply a seeker without a label, our door is open. We do not ask you to check your mind at the entrance, nor do we demand you abandon your own traditions. We simply ask that you bring a good heart and a willingness to break bread with your neighbor. Our Mission: Spirituality that "Works"
We believe that spirituality is not meant to be hidden in the shadows or debated in the abstract—it is meant to be lived. If a spiritual practice doesn't help you become a better neighbor, a more grounded parent, or a more resilient human being, it isn't working. Our mission is threefold:
To Harbor: Creating a safe, non-judgmental space where the community can gather—not to argue politics, but to find our common humanity. To Heal: Providing tangible support to those in crisis, whether through a hot meal on Soul Care Sunday or spiritual counsel in times of grief. To Empower: We are not here to be your gurus. We are here to provide the tools, education, and historical context you need to navigate your own spiritual journey and stand in your own power. Our Outreach: Beyond the Walls
The true work of The Old Church happens outside our stained-glass windows. We are home to Credentialed Pagan Clergy, fully recognized and authorized to provide pastoral care within state institutions. We believe that the light is needed most in the darkest places. Institutional Chaplaincy: We provide spiritual counsel and advocacy in hospitals and prisons, ensuring that inmates and patients of all faiths (and none) have an advocate at their side during life’s most difficult transitions. Strategic Community Alliances: We believe in collaboration over competition. We are proud to serve as the Winter Headquarters for The Kilted Santa Project (founded by our neighbor, The Kilted Farmer). By providing the operational space, manpower, and logistical support for this massive effort, we help ensure that hundreds of local children experience the magic of the season without barriers. Our Philosophy: The Purple Door
Why a Purple Door? Because it represents the synthesis of opposites. It is the balance between the red of passion and the blue of peace; the meeting point of the logic of the mind and the wisdom of the heart. We are a community that rejects the "us vs. them" narrative. We believe in the power of the Open Table. Come as you are. The lamp is lit.
